Veto!
Because we all know that farm workers and restaurant workers are paid too much already.
GOP Leaders Expand H-2B Visa-Worker ProgramPAY-FOR-PLAY GOP Leaders Expand H-2B Visa-Worker Program
Trump is just a speed bump on our way to Marxist rule.
VETO this Big Business/Big Government give-away bill, Mr. President. Jim Jordan, a real conservative congressman from Ohio, said in an interview on Fox Business this morning that this is the worst bill he has ever seen worse than during the Obama years when Ryan and McConnell gave Obama more than he asked for!
If this monstrosity passes, conservatives will stay home in November, and the GOP House and Senate will be gone. Next, the President will be gone.
Farmworkers are under the H2A program not H2B, and prevailing wage is $12.84/hour.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. That’s the GOP-E way.
This is not the issue that will drive a Trump veto. Indeed, the number of visas issued for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago has increased this year to 70, up from 64 workers during the 2016-17 winter season, despite the presidents buy American, hire American pledge.
An H2B visa is a temporary work visa for foreign workers with a job offer for seasonal, non-agricultural work in the US. The H2B visa program is open to nationals of countries designated by the United States Secretary of Homeland Security and is capped at 66, 000 visas per year (from October 1 - September 30).
What is the purpose of increasing this. Seasonal? Non agriculture? Is this what kids used to use to get summer jobs in the US and then got perverted?
Yes, but...
I live in a place where the summer population expands several-fold. There aren't enough kids in the area to fill all of the summer jobs that pop up. Things like seasonal roadside restaurants, expanded help at the supermarket checkout counter, etc. The H2B's that come are housed in somewhat supervised but dense housing, I believe. I don't know the details, but there haven't been complaints.
Is it abused? Probably. But there are places where it serves a purpose. I can't tell from here if it is abused on balance. That is, unlike the H1B program, which is a total disgrace.
Thanks, I wasn’t clear on the distinction.
Still, I was reading an article recently where they were complaining that, because the border had tightened up, and H2Bs had supposedly tightened up, employers were being forced to raise wages. As if that were a bad thing. They were referring specifically to farm workers and restaurant workers.
I will await details/explanation. I’ve learned that as valuable as Brietbart can be, it sometimes takes the worst possible view of something.
Back in the day....but lookk at today’s snowflakes. Would you hire a typical kid from Broward county?
How much of this is directly or indirectly subsidized by USA taxpayers? If the inevitable compression of wages results in food stamps and other subsidies to other workers then it is crony capitalism.
The 4 current worthless leaders in Congress should not have ultimate control over negotiatons.
40% of the illegal alien invaders are VISA overstays.
Spit.
I can’t answer your question because I don’t have survey data or wide personal experience.
In my area, it kind of works. The summer workers just aren’t there, so they’d have to come from somewhere. Could a domestic summer relocate-and-lodge program fill the bill? Maybe... but it would take time to spin up.
Tell me again why I should vote for Republican?
A nation of 330 million do not need to import ANY new workers for any reason what so ever.
