Liberal media didn’t think data mining was so bad when Obama’s campaign did it

The left is outraged that President Trump’s campaign used data mining to win the 2016 election – but neither the media nor Democrats seemed to mind when President Obama’s team did the same thing.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro penned a column for The Hill on Tuesday headlined, “What’s genius for Obama is scandal when it comes to Trump,” which outlined the differences in the way similar news was covered during contrasting administrations.

Shapiro surfaced a 2012 report from The Guardian that proclaimed Obama’s reelection team was mining data through Facebook to target specific voters. The Guardian is also the publication that reported on political data analytics company Cambridge Analytica and its ties to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Cambridge Analytica is accused of harvesting data to build profiles on 50 million Facebook users, who agreed to fill out a survey, in an attempt to help Team Trump target specific voters with ads and stories.

Shapiro noted that Facebook didn’t object when Obama’s team used tactics similar to what Trump’s campaign employed, noting that a former Obama campaign staffer recently admitted Facebook didn’t try to stop Obama’s 2012 re-election team because the company wanted him to win.

In fact, they were quite proud of the way OFA and MoveOn harnessed the new technology of social media data mining.

This is all part of the effort to make everything Trump does or says “abnormal” or “controversial” no matter if the dems themselves have said or done the same thing. Data mining may sound like some sort of modern day invention, but advertising started long ago, and it has always been based on profiling potential customers, gathering stats on what works and what doesn’t. I would have been disappointed to find out that the Trump campaign didn’t use data mining.

Mark Zuckerberg will speak about using data mining of Facebook data soon. I doubt Zuckerberg will mention anything about data mining by Obama’s team for his 2012 reelection.

Well, that’s because Democrats are good and Republicans are evil.

If he does, he'll call it something different.

Just another reason I’ll never have anything to do with Facebook. How ‘bout you?

“I’ll never have anything to do with Facebook. How ‘bout you?”....

I manage a Facebook page for our local Lions Club so have some difficulty dropping out of Facebook completely. I’ll have to determine if there might be better places.

In the meantime, I have all but stopped using/reading the garbage that is constantly appearing on the Facebook site. From time to time however, I DO use the “chat” to send messages for those I have befriended. Hope there are better options.

I am on Facebook, but all I do is peak in and very seldom post anything. What gets me the most when it asks what is on my mind. As if that is anyone’s business

I know. Here in Canada, the CBC was making a big deal of a Canadian company did data mining for Trump. For gawds sake, they are doing nothing more than what private companies do to target customers. They are collating data. Ooh. So scary. Something Democrats I am sure have been doing for decades.

Normally, Facebook would be able to rely on principled conservatives to defend their right to conduct business freely. But they have chosen sides against conservatives who might have defended them and are now at the mercy of their will-to-power Democrat allies.

See ya’, wouldn’t want so be ya’!
