The reason we have so many school shootings in such a short interval of time is the amount of coverage and attention the media gives mass shooters. The shooter gets not only his 15 minutes of fame but 15 days or weeks of fame - with his name and face at the front every news website, magazine, or paper. Other disgruntled nobodies (especially unbalanced teens) see this and think that they too can be (in)famous by going out in a blaze.

Media attention, not guns, is what's driving the school mass shooting phenomenon. I'm not sure what can be done about this since news outlets 1st amendment rights and this kind of news coverage is what sells, but this is what it all comes down to.

Could this be a copy-cat crime?? LE have forever been concerned about copy-cat crime. If a rape occurs, the question is always asked: should we release the information and thereby warn other women, or keep it quiet to reduce the chance of a copy-cat rape.

I just read a letter to the editor of a freebie paper in Iowa City, home of the Univ. of Iowa (read: liberal utopia). The student who wrote the letter stated that she is terrified to go to school every day. Yup that’s rational.
