McDaniel Switcheroo Shifts Hot Seat to Bryant (who now has to choose someone to beat McDaniel)

All that, of course, hinges on McDaniel beating the Republican that Gov. Phil Bryant will soon name to fill Cochran's seat until the special election.

Who can beat McDaniel is the overriding concern facing the governor along with other state GOP leaders. Bryant might be toughest for McDaniel to beat. Many have encouraged him to go for it, including President Donald Trump. But Bryant told the Clarion-Ledger last week, "I'm never going to run for office again."

Another strong candidate would be former Gov. Haley Barbour. While unlikely, a Barbour vs. McDaniel contest would resemble the extraordinary race four years ago between Cochran and McDaniel.

Another interesting race would be Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves vs. McDaniel. There is no love lost between these two. Reeves has kept McDaniel in a box in the Mississippi Senate.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann would have a chance. Others, such as House Speaker Philip Gunn and Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith, would have to build name ID and run hard to catch McDaniel.

And, if more than one strong Republican gets in, they would split votes needed to beat McDaniel.

The whole Haley Barbour crowd REALLY hate McDaniel!

Even if they succeed in keeping McDaniel out of the Senate, Bryant now has to choose someone more conservative than he would have otherwise liked.

Win-Win!

Haley Barbour runs the MS branch of the Bush League Republicans for the Cheap Labor Express.

The citizens need to wrest control of the party, state by state from the Bush League Republicans.

If we want to keep our country.

I have to remind myself that “Stormy” is not the only one named Daniels. That’s not even her real name anyway.
I must have just blocked the Mc part out, only seeing
Daniel.

Haley Barbour = one good ol’ farm boy, who subsequently lost the farm.
Just about anyone would be better than he. After his shenanigans in partnering with the turtle, he will never be seen as wearing the white hat of ‘good guys’. Disappointing, very disappointing. But that’s the way it is. All for one. The one, being THEMSELVES.

I’m never going to run for office again.”

Based on that quote from the article, I wish there were more state and federal politicians who’d make the same promise - and keep it!

Oh just appoint McDaniel himself and avoid this whole fiasco.

True enough - but it would make more sense for them to know to do this to begin with - and someone who is a good candidate. Often times they not only choose bad conservatives but also people who are just generally bad candidates. Boring old man doesn't do it. Luther Strange was appointed under the good ol' boy system in Alabama - taking the opportunity to appointment a younger, more dynamic candidate would have made him or her a stronger candidate who would not have been vulnerable in a primary...someone that would have excited people to get out and vote for rather than someone they "should" vote for but weren't really motivated to do so...that was an opportunity to look to the future, instead we got, well, a lost Senate seat.

“instead we got, well, a lost Senate seat.”

If “we” refers to the establishment, they don’t lose unless a true conservative wins.

THE most important thing to the Bush League Republicans is to prevent the citizens from electing anyone who would side with US and the rule of law.
They have been force feeding us amnesty candidates at every level for decades.

I totally agree. But the Establishment doesn’t like young dynamic candidates, unless they are like Marco Rubio, that is, types they can co-opt.

Choose someone WHO CAN APPEAR more conservative until there’s money on the table that compels them to vote otherwise.

The Barbours and their gang are all about milking the Ex-Im Bank for millions, and federal contracts at the shipyard.

The Barbours were democrats as was Cochran. They switched for convenience during the Reagan era. Their whole schtick is to milk the federal and state government for everything they can get. They’ll switch parties at the drop of a dime if their cozy arrangements are at risk. The term ‘corrupt’ doesn’t begin to describe these grifters.

we got, well, a lost Senate seat.

When the Republican party deliberately backstabs someone, it sometimes costs us a Senate seat. In the case of McDaniels and Cochran in the last election, I would have rather had the Democrat, because it would have at least shown the GOPe people that stabbing a conservative in the back will bite you in the @$$.

I predicted at the time that we would see more future backstabbing because of what they did to McDaniel, and we saw more backstabbing in Alabama.

This. I have come to believe that the thing most important to the Washington DC cartel is that the spending party continue.

I would rather vote communist than Barbour or Reeves. Bryant for that matter also. He played coy during that whole 2014 fiasco. Yes i voted against Cochran in that general.

“The whole Haley Barbour crowd REALLY hate McDaniel!”

Well then, we’re even because I regard Haley Barbour as the biggest steaming pile of Southern-fried dog excrement on the face of the planet. Boss Hogg looks like a choirboy when placed alongside Barbour. I am ever hopeful that several RATs will kick the bucket ( ie. Ruth Buzzy, Hillary, Slick, Obola and a few others), but Barbour is at the top of my GOPE list for dirt naps, right behind McCain.
