Officials Wanted the Parkland Shooter Institutionalized in 2016

By now, it is clear that many officials either willfully ignored or missed warning signs that the mass murderer who killed 17 innocent Americans in last month's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida needed severe mental help. But, until today, it was never clear that anybody who had recommended Nikolas Cruz for involuntary institutionalization.

The Associated Press now reports that school officials and a sheriff's deputy recommended that Cruz should be "forcibly committed."

"From the Associated Press:

...documents in the criminal case against Nikolas Cruz and obtained by The Associated Press show school officials and a sheriff's deputy recommended in September 2016 that Cruz be involuntarily committed for a mental evaluation.

The documents, which are part of Cruz's criminal case in the shooting, show that he had written the word "kill" in a notebook, told a classmate that he wanted to buy a gun and use it, and had cut his arm supposedly in anger because he had broken up with a girlfriend. He also told another student he had drunk gasoline and was throwing up. Calls had even been made to the FBI about the possibility of Cruz using a gun at school.

The documents were provided by a psychological assessment service initiated by Cruz's mother called Henderson Behavioral Health. The documents show a high school resource officer who was also a sheriff's deputy and two school counselors recommended in September 2016 that Cruz be committed for mental evaluation under Florida's Baker Act. That law allows for involuntary commitment for mental health examination for at least three days.

Such an involuntary commitment would also have been a high obstacle if not a complete barrier to legally obtaining a firearm, such as the AR-15 rifle used in the Stoneman Douglas massacre on Feb. 14, authorities say.

As the AP notes, the school resource officer who recommended institutionalization was Scot Peterson. Peterson is the man who resigned for failing to enter the building where the shooting was occurring for several minutes after arriving first at the scene.

Had Cruz actually been committed, he more likely than not would have been prevented from purchasing the deadly weapons used in the horrific shooting.

So not really a “false flag” in that this nut really did all the shooting.

Of course the local officials, who knew he posed a genuine threat, did nothing to interdict him.

And then ordered their leos to wait outside why the killings took place.

from the article:

“...recommended that he be forcibly committed...”

“...the school resource officer who recommended institutionalization was Scot Peterson. Peterson is the man who resigned for failing to enter the building...”

And why wasn’t anything done back then??!!??

why pass knee-jerk laws, when not only there were laws already on the books (Baker act), but there was pressure to lock the perp up?

If they really did want him institutionalize perhaps they should have given less than 39 Second Chances and actually charged with crime at least one of these times. One charge would likely have kept him from Legally buying a firearm.

The Federal Govt (during the last administration) put pressure on schools to decrease the “school to prison pipeline.” In 2013, the Broward county schools and sheriff’s office came up with an innovative plan to reduce school based arrests. They agreed to stop referring students to the police for things like assault and drug use.

Amazingly the number of arrests at school dropped 63% from 2012-2016. The White House deemed it was a miracle and invited the superintendent to the White House on a meeting about “Rethink Discipline.” So that is how Mr. Cruz slipped through the system.

*****Such an involuntary commitment would also have been a high obstacle if not a complete barrier to legally obtaining a firearm*****

Watch carefully the new laws that will spring fourth saying that anyone with mental health issues cannot get a gun. I can just see a new glut of institutions being set up, and people being committed to remove them from the list of people who can buy a gun.

And meanwhile, Rick Scott signs a dumb ol’ bill that would have likely not prevented the massacre, except for the armed teachers provision, were it in effect some time ago.

All roads lead to a conspiracy to have a school shooting they would be ready to politicize on a moments notice.
They all knew that this “kid” was a ticking time bomb. They didn’t have their response team ready to go for Sandy Hook was the dems reasoning why they didn’t get gun control. This time they would be ready. Every government breakdown was potentially a stand down order. Even having schools be a gun free zone was likely part of the effort to get school shootings they could politicize.

On a related note: Schools are very, very high on the sleeper cell terrorist target list.

So why wasn’t the Baker Act invoked by the judge?

The article fails to say why this recommendation wasn’t followed.

My first guess is that someone invoked the Promise Program and
short-circuited this intervention.

That statement is close to some thoughts I had on the matter, after Hogg and other students began their ‘gun control’ message. Then his pic with Podesta showed up, and that he was part of that group....SCARY.

The left is not above pushing a mentally ill person over the edge to fulfill an agenda. I dismissed that thought, however, your comment rings with some truth. If they will kill people to promote Hillary, why not children to fulfill their gun control wishes. I hope I am wrong on that one.

If that is even remotely close, then Trump/America has a long way to go to restore this country to the way it was even twenty to thirty years ago...so sad. We must first regain a respect for human life!

“And then ordered their leos to wait outside why the killings took place.”

When the shootings were happening they did not know who the shooter was. So we have two separate systemic problems — failure to take action on the preventive front end and failure to take action to stop the shooter on the back end. Incredible.
