Most Vets do these things, but it comes out of the heart or pocket.
I have folks looking after me but are they my Mama?
VFWs run on a thin budget that we all bitch about.
There is no simple solution, but I bet the vets did more than this guy who made it political for face time.

it really sounds like this guy has been refusing help, and you can not legally do anything about it, unless he's incompetent..

This is just Yellow journalism but we can all agree the VA is awash in BS
VFWs and the like are run by Vets, Some want help and some don’t.
Honoring them is about all we can reasonably do sometimes.
I’ll Tell you this, You don’t want to get shoved off to the 4th floor of the VA olden folks home.
We pulled some of those guys out into sunshine fore the first time in years, cooked them burgers, told sea storys, laughed....
And had to send them back in...
I hope I go in my sleep, and not screaming like the passengers in my WWII Grandfathers car.
We had an old vet in a wheelchair here show up on the evening news because his apartment was decrepit, paint peeling, non working cook stove, roaches., etc. They contacted the landlord but before the landlord could even get out there some locals had got together and went in and cleaned and painted the place. Fixed some doors and windows. A local appliance center donated and installed a top of the line stove and microwave and a pest control had went in and sprayed.
We have a very giving community though.

This may well be legitimate, but there are also a lot of Stolen Valor types out there. The story’s author might have addressed this.
