Russian funding of U.S. environmental groups shows how collusion is done
American Spectator ^ | 3/8/18 | Kevin Mooney

Last week, a congressional committee released a jarring and persuasive report on Russian meddling in American politics. Despite a media feeding frenzy over anything tangentially connected to questions of Russian interference, this report went largely unnoticed.

The U.S. House Science, Space, and Technology Committee’s “Russia’s Social Media Meddling in U.S. Energy Markets” details Russian funding of U.S. environmental groups, which used resources to protest the process of fracking and the existence of the Keystone pipeline. Russia, the world’s largest oil producer, figures to watch the U.S. surpass it within five years. Killing fracking and the pipeline stand as two ways for Russia to avert this fate.

Rep. Lamar Smith, the chairman of the committee, describes the “mechanics of Russia’s scheme to use nonprofit entities to influence U.S. public policy and public opinion” with regard to oil and gas and the fracking process. Smith points out that “publicly available reports connect the dots” between U.S. environmental groups and a Bermuda-based shell company known as Klein Ltd. that operates as a “pass through” organization for foreign funds.

No need for Russia to interfere with fracking here in NYS. We have a governor for that.

Remember the movie "Promised Land"? (Anti fracking)
Got some hype until it was revealed it was financed in part by an interest out of the UAE (OPEC)

Stop blaming the Russians who have a lot less money than the Arabs or the Chinese.

Its their money and influence that’s flooding our country and the politicians and media and business all want to distract from the real sources of the loot going into their pockets with the Russia bashing.

I battle with environmental groups on an almost daily basis, so any report they are receiving funding from a foreign government for activities that are harmful to me and my neighbors, is certainly of interest. If Russia gets “bashed” in the process, so be it.

The Democrats mantra: It’s already been litigated, move on, nothing to see.

Then there was Obongo who went to the Hollywood producers and told them it was their responsibility to “get the word out”. After that I noticed a huge uptick in climate change BS in story lines and scripts.

Russia meddling in US affairs has been going on for years. They funded much of the anti-American activity of the 60’s. Funneled through Canada, money and expertise went to the Weather Underground, SDS,Black Panthers and others. This is all a matter of record although there has been a pretty good job done white washing the record over the years. I was in LE in the 60’s and involved. We were targets of these anarchist groups.

That the anti-Americans of the 60’s who are now in positions of power in government are freaked out about Russia says to me that Russia actually has changed in a fundamental way, possibly no longer funding those 60’s anti-Americans, although I doubt it’s wise to trust Russia too much in either it’s former communist form or it’s current mob state fascist form. That doesn’t mean we can’t work toward common interests where possible and minimize conflict if possible, but trust isn’t a word that I’d use in association with that country in relation to this one, ever.

Agreed - I support the President’s belief that through informal or formal talks, areas of common interest can found and once working together on one area of interest other areas may be found, and transformation can be had. Hopefully their’s not our’s.

yes, a Gov. who is basically a commie agent. Like the NYC mayor, though they hate each other. Funny how Leftards often hate each other.

Pennsylvania has huge natural gas fields. Natural gas is an extremely clean burning fuel that needs little to no processing. The most environmentally friendly way to ship it is via pipeline. Russia and useful idiots in the US protest pipelines that would deliver this huge, cheap American resource to huge population centers in the Northeast so they can ship Russian LNG to the Atlantic Seaboard.
