Macron seeks to replace Britain as India's gateway to Europe

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday he wanted France to supplant Britain as New Delhi’s partner of choice in Europe, as he embarked on a four-day tour of India.

Macron, a pro-business centrist who swept to power last year, has been beating the drum for France as a new, modernised “startup nation” on the world stage, while he pushes ahead with a wide-ranging programme of reforms at home.

He has also used Britain’s decision to leave the European Union to pitch France as an investment destination at the heart of the European single market.

“Your historical partner in Europe was the UK, and I want France to become the new partner,” Macron told India Today in an interview published on its website. “I want France to become the reference partner of the 21st century.”

A suggestion... Don not conduct yourself like the last Frenchman who visited India... Justin Not Ready Trudeau, Prime Minister in training. He showed up wearing a funny costume, had dinner with an convicted Indian terrorist and generally made a jackass of himself.

Macron can’t even do what’s right by France. The idea of him being a gateway to anything but destruction, is idiotic.

If they make Jérôme Kerviel the Minister of Finance, it could happen.

Replace and replicate the banking infrastructure that is in Great Britain... One of the financial capitals of the world for the last 200 hundred years. What experience does Jérôme Kerviel have in maintaining global currency, insurance, stocks, bonds, etc? None. Nor do the French have the people to do it, or the capital. What infrastructure do they have in place to pull off this marvelous feat?? Nothing/Zilch/Nada.

Switzerland and Luxembourg have the infrastructure to give it a run, but it won’t happen without the people or capital to pull it off.

The Euro as a currency is probably dead in the water in the next 8 to 14 years, no government outside of the EU is adding the EU to it’s reserve baskets currently. Britain will not loose its banking status, no matter how hard the EU cries. The EU is a socialist joke that is dying for many reasons. That was before they brought in the Soros/Merkel Muslim hoard. Now it is worse!

This is not a one man or government job. Your comment is naive at best.

Much Respect!

Founded

Macron is doing good for France in comparison to the other options (theNational Front is much more socialist) and far, far, far better than Francois Holland

France IS for the French

You do realize that France since the French revolution has a sense of nationality akin to the American sense where people are supposed to become French? That's how the Fanconization of people in Alsace, Lorraine, Britany, Gascon, Corsica, Tahiti, French Guiana happens/happened

The French concept is that you can have Nicholas Sarkozy who is the son of a Hungarian origin father and a mixed Greek-Jewish and French-Catholic mother

Ditto for Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris who is completely Spanish OR Isild Le Besco of mixed Corsican, Algerian, etc. blood

So France is highly, highly chauvanistic -- they actively try to destroy minority languages like Corsican, Breton, Gascon, etc.

Also France has strong pro-family policies giving large amounts of maternity leave, support for mothers, even paternity leave. It has a birth rate that is well over the replacement rate (of 2.1) and that includes "white" French as well. With the exceptions of the banlieus, France is better integrated than the USA in terms of different ethnicities -- the UK is better integrated than both.

Radical Mslims are a problem in both countries, but note that in France in particular, most "Muslims" are muslim in name only -- the levels of mosque attendance are en par with church attendance -- miserable. The state is anti-religion, all religions.

Finally, note that Macron is talking about India investing in France and using France as the gateway for investments from and to the rest of the EU.

This is actually very plausible as the UK is leaving the EU

Most likely companies that want to do business in the EU will move to a mix of Ireland (Dublin and Cork), France (Paris- La Defense) and Frankfurt

It makes sense for non-EU countries to have a place they can do business with the EU through.

The front-runners for the gateway to the EU have different stengths and weaknesses:

  1. Ireland: good for business but very little business infrastructure and too small
  2. Germany - good for business, good startup area in Berlin and very strong Mittelstand
  3. France: large companies, big market but not good business environment for start ups
  4. Poland: upcoming, great for back offices and IT and technology, a middling industrial area - but close to Germany and the Czech republic

The article is about France wooing Indian businesses to invest in the EU through France (i.e. invest in France)

It's not about selling French goods.

The Rafale is decent for the money. The American options cost much more and there is always the kill switch that is held by the USA. And Russian stuff is not that good.

Miliarily India is going for a mix of Israeli, American, French, Russian and home-grown products
