The Ukrainian authorities began to seize assets of the Russian holding company Gazprom for allegedly failing to comply with the Stockholm Arbitration Order and violating the monopoly legislation of Ukraine. It happened following the comments of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the court decision, the department of the state executive service intends to recover from Gazprom almost 172 billion hryvnia in favor of the state budget of Ukraine.

"In this case, the identification and arrest of assets belonging to Gazprom in Ukraine began," it was reported.

Among being seized the property of the companies Gazpromprom Ukraina and the International Consortium for the Management and Development of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine, securities of Institute YuzhNIIGIPROGAZ and JSC Gaztranzit.

Earlier on March 7, Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groisman instructed the Ministry of Justice and the leadership of Naftogaz to study the possibility of seizing the assets of the Russian companies elsewhere in the world.

Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine are contesting contracts for the supply and transit of gas in the Stockholm Arbitration since June 2014. In December 2011, the Stockholm Arbitration ordered the Ukrainian side to pay Gazprom more than $ 2 billion for the supplied fuel. In 2017, Gazprom was ordered to pay Naftogaz $ 2.56 billion for refusal to deliver gas Ukraine could not pay for. The Russian holding expressed disagreement with this decision and called the continuation of the contracts with Ukraine '' economically inexpedient and unprofitable ''.

On March 1, Gazprom announced the commencement of the procedure for the termination of contracts for the supply and transit of gas with Naftogaz of Ukraine, having returned the prepayment for March. On March 6, the Russian holding company appealed against the arbitration award. The Ukrainian company announced its intention to collect another $ 20 billion from the Russian holding during the new arbitration lawsuit, the based on unfair cost of gas transit through Ukraine forced upon a country under earlier contract.

If Ukraine thinks they can seize Russian assets of this size without consequence, their friggin’ crazy.

Russia will roll tanks across their entire country, and kill every politician.

And Ukraine won’t get any help from us. Oh, maybe some light arms shipments...but no real help.

Look for a brutal response, possibly an invasion.

I don’t think there would be military response but they sure would have Atlas shrugged situation very soon.

Could get interesting.

I have always thought with the selling out of America, we’ll be backed into a corner one day, looking at nationalizing assets.

Then, it will be on like Donkey Kong.

The Russian modus operandi is to avoid public embarrassment making the outcome of this predictable.

The only response they need to make is simply to cut off the gas. Anyone downstream and dependent will freeze.

The problem is Ukes holds half of Europe hostage in that. They used it for years to extort free gas from Gazprom this way. Now free gas is not enough and they want free money on top and a lot of it.

DJT’s Dec 21 2017 EO might just save us from ‘nationalizing’...

"The problem is Ukes holds half of Europe hostage in that."

The same "half of Europe" that goes along with US sanctions and refuses to force Ukraine to deal with reality rather than fantasy?

Yeah, Russia will weep and not even dream of closing the flow through the pipeline I'm sure. They wouldn't dare let Europe deal with the consequences of their own actions.

Ukraine claims it's the best route for a pipeline carrying gas to Europe and must remain the primary route for such natural gas. However, they've routinely siphoned off gas that Europeans were paying for, made demands that were totally unreasonable, threatened to close their section of the pipeline, and actually closed the pipeline so European countries would put pressure on Russia.

If the French and Germans think what Ukraine wants is more important than their own economies, so be it, but Gazprom's reaction to the latest Ukrainian BS makes it clear that Russia is fed up with paying for Ukrainian temper tantrums.

After making sure they can't be blamed for people freezing to death in the EU this winter, I figure Russia will cut all use of the Ukraine route and tell the European countries to work with them on alternative routes or find other suppliers before next winter.

Hell, they may not even wait long enough to ship through the winter if they think Europe has enough gas in storage to make it until about May of this year.

Slamming sanctions on Russia is one of the most stupid things the US has done in the past five decades full of stupid things we've done. China will gladly buy all the gas Russia doesn't ship to Europe with Japan, Korea, and others in Asia standing in line to negotiate delivery pipeline routes and delivery contracts for whatever they can get. The only obviously more stupid thing anyone has done is the EU going along with those sanctions.

That’s the whole point. Why do you think there were wars in Libya and Syria? Why there are LNG terminals built in Poland and Baltics?

If I were Russia I wouldn’t give up. I’d address the German people directly over Merkel’s head.
Why should they pay four times as much for hydrocarbons only because someone paid to Clinton foundation to pull these tricks and their beloved commie Chancellor is silent on that.
