Is North Korea Really Seeking Peace, Or Is The Regime Setting A Trap?
The Federalist ^ | 03/07/2018 | Helen Raliegh

During a meeting with South Korea’s political delegation yesterday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly made clear his willingness for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, if military threats towards the North are cleared and the security of its government is guaranteed. Kim also told the South Korean delegation that he is willing to engage in direct talk with Washington and would halt weapons tests during any negotiations. Both the North and South Korean leaders agreed to hold a summit, the 3rd such summit since the end of the Korean War, in April this year. A hotline between the leaders of the two Koreas will be up and running shortly.

These announcements mark a significant development of the Korean peninsula. Not so long ago, we seemed on the brink of another Korean War and Kim was vowing that his nuclear weapons program was a “treasured sword,” which was not up for negotiation. So what caused this 180 degree change of direction? Is he a changed man now who is eager to seek peace or is he merely repeating his father Kim Jong-il ‘s strategy of using negotiation as a delaying tactic?

Sanctions are Working

There’s strong indication that Kim’s desire to talk is at least partially driven by the impact of economic sanctions. Unlike previous administrations, the Trump administration has pursued a series of economic sanctions aiming to put “maximum pressure” on Pyongyang, by curbing the country’s access to funds and fuel, including naming and shaming Chinese businesses and individuals who assisted North Korea’s illicit trades.

I don’t know about “trap,” but I vote for “Trick or Treat.” It’s worked for them before.

They are just buying time to keep working on their weapons like they have done for decades.

I will probably just lead to another 2 or 3 years of weapons inspections where the Norks say “You can look for weapons over there, but not in this underground facility over here. They’re just making Kim dolls in there”.

Could be

But fat boy has only been in charge since 2011, he *MIGHT* be smart enough to see the writing on the wall

And he knows President Trump isn’t going to send cargo ships full of grains, food, weapons, machinery, movies/porn, like the previous admins did.

Plus did he lose like 200 nuclear scientists, to an under ground nuclear accident a few months ago? Nuclear scientists are not exactly easy to replace.

I don’t think President Trump will make a John Kerry deal

Of course that would be a deal the Norks would love to have, but I doubt Trump will make it.

Escalation means they will, at some point, actually end up in violent conflict - with the one country most efficient at it. (The second Iraq War was effectively over with in 3 days flat, we just needed a few years to clean up the unexpected mess caused by a power vacuum.)

As Scott Adams noted today: every day NK becomes weaker/worse; alternative is a Korean unification process that sets Fat Boy & family up as practical royalty lauded for vastly improving the country. Trump has no interest in attacking NK, but clearly wouldn’t hesitate to do so, very efficiently & dispassionately, if persuaded to. Multi-generational royalty vs smoking crater is Un’s choice.

I don’t know if these promising overtures from North Korea will lead to positive results, but I feel certain that their desire for a solution and willingness to compromise is much more genuine than it was in previous times. There are things going on behind the scenes that the public is not privy to. Certainly the sanctions and economic pressure being placed on North Korea is helping, but there are things unseen - covert ops - that are having an even greater effect - things that are weakening Kim’s ability to continue his nuclear program, and likely has him personally scared for his safety.

Frankly, I think (a) the “scandal” against the former President was rigged up by Chicom leaning traitors in South Korea and (b) that’s what the current president of South Korea is - a dupe who is aligned with China. So, yes, I think North Korea is setting a diplomatic trap for the compromised leader of South Korea and like Chamberlain he will take the bait.

DJT must appear, for the international press,to be willing to talk. But he'd be foolish not to realize that this is almost certainly a stunt by that fat psychopath. He must also make it clear to South Korean officials that it's *we*,and not them, who will manage this because of the danger that they will be badly fooled by said psychopath.

My gut tells me they have structural problems in their country...

and if they continue on course....it's going to be a BIG....spit in the sky, come back in your eye.

In other words, they're going to destroy themselves.

But it doesn't mean they won't sell goods and secrets.

I wouldn’t trust N Korea if they told me the sky was blue. You can’t deal with demons, and that is most certainly what this sibling/uncle/etc. killing subhuman is.
