Barry Johnson ousted two-term incumbent Abel Reyna as McLennan County district attorney, in a contentious race played out under the dark specter of the 2015 Twin Peaks shootout.

Johnson, 61, who practiced personal injury law in Dallas for 30 years before moving back to McLennan County last year, got 10,347 votes for 59.9 percent of the vote to Reyna’s 6,930 for 40.1 percent.

The defeat of the despicable statist thug DA Reyna in this primary election is one of the many pieces of good news from yesterday’s Texas election.

I am glad to see Reyna go. What do we know about Barry Johnson?

When will Reconquistador Reyna sue Waco for discrimination in voting him out of office?

Could Wacky Waco finally be waking up since the biker case is hitting them in the wallet?

Maybe now we will start to see some justice. Time will tell.

The evil Reyna lost in a landslide, so yes, they appear to be waking up.

When he lost his first and best case ( out of 200 pending) — the entire fiasco was exposed. Several of the deaths were from .223 semi auto rifles fired by law enforcement . The bikers did not have AR 15s . The rest of the cases were never going to be assault beyond a reasonable doubt because you will never know if it was self defense. I am for the enforcement of provable crimes but the wholesale arrest in this case with no real proof of anything was a legal disaster and an economic disaster for Waco. If follows one of the greatest legal and human tragedies in our history at the Seventh Day Adventist compound known as Mt. Carmel just 10 miles away.

Reyna was destined to lose to the facts and forensics, and trial testimony. What was he thinking??

Justice was bound to prevail against him, eventually, and doubtless a movie will be produced that further seals his place in history.

I have some understanding of the element of proof needed to convict a person of deadly assault to which the defense is self defense. I had always assumed that at least they could find convictions on weapons charges but apparently many of those men had concealed permits or the videos just failed to make ID on anyone. The DA went off with no cases proven IMO. The first case was a joke against the president of the club on racketeering !! Hell, that could have been done BEFORE the gun fight!! And he failed there. It was over at that point. I understand that he is the defendant in several defamation and civil rights law suits stemming from this fiasco?

Dare I ask: was it RvsD or totally non-partisan?

He was thinking the bikers would not be able to afford a defense and would plea bargain to lesser offenses. He thought wrong.

This was the primary vote, so he lost in the Republican primary. I don't know who it was who was running against him, who will now be the Republican candidate. Bring this is Texas, and the part of Texas it is in, winning the Republican primary is all but the equivalent of winning the election.

First off I live in Washington state. Have been trying to keep up as much as possible with the 2015 Twin Peaks shootout prosecutions of the different defendants, or more correctly the stalling of prosecutions. What kind of worries me is the "Reyna’s 6,930 for 40.1 percent."

Are their that many democRATS in Waco?

Barry Johnson, 61, got 10,347 votes for 59.9 percent of the vote to Reyna’s 6,930 for 40.1 percent...
