AUSTIN, TEXAS The 2018 midterm election cycle kicked off with a surge in voter enthusiasm for both parties in Texas, although the gains were bigger for Democrats. It boosted a slew of women candidate and helped Republicans who had drawn direct support from President Donald Trump. The primary set up Democrats to make inroads in November although they are unlikely to overturn two decades of Republican dominance in Texas politics. Here are some things to know from the first state primary in the nation.

Trump's first term produced a wave of voters Texas hasn't seen in years. Spurred by big numbers in early voting, Democratic voters topped the 1 million mark, a total not seen since the 2002 primary. Republicans responded in even larger numbers, passing 1.5 million, breaking the party record of 1.48 million set in 2010.

Hey, news media, you’re not too bright, but 1.5 million will beat 1 million every time. The Texas Trump supporters will not forget to vote in November.

Jeepers, I’d be sorry to hear (snort) that Mueller got hauled to the woodshed after Texas Republicans turned out in droves to smash Democrat dreams of a red Texas.

Obama and Chuckie musta reamed Mueller out.

“You have to try harder if we’re gonna get control.
Now get back to do the job....or else no more $150,000 paychecks.”

It would be funny is so many homosexuals moved to Austin from San Francisco that they still failed to turn Texas “Blue” but succeeded in turning California “Red”.

When I voted early about a dozen of us were in there and not one selected the democrat ballot.

Those rosy Democrat media predictions are based on numbers from the 15 most urban counties in Texas. Then rural Texas comes in and votes: Lubbock County, 19,000 for Ted Cruz to 4,000 for O’Rourke….and that in a light turn-out primary. In November, the Democrats will be destroyed again, in spite of foolishly pumping money into Texas.

The Dems always turn out in urban areas. It’s amazing how many votes can be bought with a 2-piece chicken box, an OE-40 and a pack of Newports.

I’d like to see the demographic numbers. Even slight gains for the GOP in black votes is huge. As for gays. My experience is that the gays in TX seem to be more conservative then CA. So CA may be getting more blue as GOP gays move to TX.

In my county (Cass):

Republican: 19.04% of 19,767 Registered Voters = 3764 votes

Democrap:     2.79% of 19,767 Registered Voters = 551 votes

~~~~~~~~~
"Blue Wave"? Not likely in rural Texas counties!
High turnout - a batch of open congressional seats, a few hot local races, a well contested race for governor on the Dem side; George Bush’s continued political career.
There was actually a reason to vote this year, instead of the usual re-anointing of an incumbent.
No, in Texas, the dems have historically used mail ballots for their voter fraud. Then they assist the voter (with or without the voter’s knowledge) to get the desired results. Cheaper than a chicken box.
I saw that article. How does a party “score big” in a primary?
Also, the Democrats have few incumbents in Texas, and therefore more contested primaries (though there seemed to be an unusual number of Republican incumbents drawing primary challenges this year). It is only natural that they would have relatively high turnout.
