(Jeanne) Ives, a 53-year-old Army veteran, has been crisscrossing Illinois, hitting small Downstate towns politicians normally bypass. Theyre places where Rauner did well in the 2014 governors race and Donald Trump ran up big margins two years later in his successful campaign for the presidency.
Ives stump speech is heavy on what she deems Rauners betrayal of Republican ideals, lighter on what shed do if she managed to pull off two of the biggest upsets in Illinois political history and become governor.
In Peoria, Ives digression from abortion to education was in part an attempt to illustrate she cares enough about policy matters to dig into the details, unlike Rauner, who she says has been a disinterested governor.
Weve had several greet-and-meets for him, but he just pops in and pops out, she said. Hes not personable. You ask him any question and if he doesnt want to answer it, he skips it.
Still, Ives reputation precedes her, and audiences expect to hear from an aggressive, intense politician.
Ives entree into the primary was Rauners decision in late September to sign a bill expanding taxpayer funding of abortions, which he had previously promised both Republicans and Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich that he would veto.
Conservative Republicans already were angry about Rauners support of a bill that protects immigrants who are in the country illegally from being detained solely because of their immigration status, with some accusing the governor of turning Illinois into a sanctuary state. Many also were frustrated when he failed to keep Republicans together last summer to block an income tax hike that ultimately passed over his veto.
Rauner is obviously throwing a pile of money against her, Olsen said. And so I know hes running scared.

She has been running a a very creditable race emphasizing conservative principles. What’s going to come into play though is, believe it or not is Chicago, and the 3rd district congressional race where Dan Lipinski one of the few democrat moderates in the country is facing a challenger backed by the socialist perverts now in control of the democratic (in name only ) party.
Ives race is going to be one which every vote is going to count. This district carried Reagan and depending upon turnout conservatives in that district will be voting for him When they would turnout for Ives. The GOP backers of Rauner allowed a nut job to get on the ballot as their 2rd congressional opponent which going to make Republicans look silly if Lipinski is unable to pull it off.
That’s 3rd congressional not 2nd.
Look at Rauner's face after getting crushed by Ives.
About all Rauner could do to defend his failed term was to keep muttering Mike Madagan in his empty replies to Ives withering attacks.
Watch the whole thing for yourself here and see that Jeanne knows what she is talking about and Rauner seems utterly stupefied.
Gov. Rauner drinks chocolate milk to demonstrate his commitment to diversity. Chocolate milk!? Really we are on the other side of the looking glass here in Illinois.
Bruce sure Kirked himself good but remember he won on the same ballot with Durbin so the rank and file union automatons could have been given marching orders to vote for him but he has been abandoned by his already shallow base. Bruce had his chance and was a miserable failure, he should just drop out and be happy that he isn't going directly to jail like several of our past Governors.
Illinois is the tip of the spear in the fight against big government tyranny, the battle is here, good men and women are in the fight, come on in and get some.
I meant to add this to my comments. The GOP powers that be (Brady and that bunch) let that Nazi in there as an incentive to siphon off conservatives who would be voting for Ives go for Lipinski. The way that works is the focus will be on the congressional race in that district.
Shes got my vote.

Ives is losing to Rauner. Hey it is Illinois.
