Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says comments about his players being required to stand next season when the national anthem is played before games were misconstrued.
"All of our players will be standing," Ross told the New York Daily News on Monday.

Manhood is dead in the NFL. Glad I decided to boycott them long ago.
I don’t know why they even call themselves owners anymore. The NFL now owns the Teams and the owners have become renters of each Team, and investors of the NFL.
NFL viewership is and will continue to dwindle, Ross....you and others like you keep talking, kk?
Former life long Dolphins fan here from the late 60’s. It’s too little too late. I hold them in contempt the way I hold those heathens who burn US flags outside our embassies throughout the uncivilized world. I haven’t watched a single snap in two years and have no plans to change my viewing habits because of this load of BS. The players and owners have made it quite clear, they hate America.
You made your choice Mr. Big Time NFL owner, time to pay for that whore you chose.
If I were an owner, I would institute a simple rule. If you sit for the anthem (or any other form of disrespect), you sit for the game and will be paid according to your contract’s provision for willfully missing a game.
Three such occurrences and you will be traded. If no one is willing to trade for you, then you will be released as a free agent.
My guess is that after the NFL lawyers got his mind right he legally had to clarify his statement.
I'm encouraged by his stance. I'll watch his actions next season to see if the message is received by his players. Legally, by NFL contract, he cannot force players to stand during the anthem, but he sure can let his interests known before he signs big salary checks.
Apparently, the owner of the Houston Texans, Bob McNair, has decreed that no kneeling players are to be pursued in free agency.
He’s also infamous for saying “the inmates can’t be in charge of the prison”. I believe he meant the saying “you can’t have the inmates in charge of the asylum”, which I’ve heard all of my 48 years; and since he’s much older, I’m sure he’s heard it all his life as well.

Time for Trump to order an end to all the US Military Honor guards, formations and flyovers at these events. Also time for the NFL to start paying for the enormous security costs incurred by local, state and federal agencies at these games. Tired of wasting tax dollars and forcing honorable men to associate themselves with slime.

Me too. And I took my ten-year old son to the Super Bowl the year Earl Morrell won every game, including the pre-season games. NAL had to put on extra flights. What a thrill that was.
Ha. I didnt even watch the Super Bore and even made a thread about it. When I say I boycott...i EFFING boycott unlike some treacherous Freepers who watch the Negro Football League. .

Things changed, slowly and by degrees. Refs called more penalties, and most long-yardage plays had flags come out. This, along with interminable "instant replay" delays slowed the games down. The NFL added Sunday morning games in Europe, and Sunday night games to their schedule. Mondays were no longer locked-in from 9 to midnight, they added an extra game here and there. Thursdays (beyond Thanksgiving) were added in, and the games weren't broadcast on National TV. I began to lose interest.
Bob Costas insisted on lecturing us on the current political fad, and BO showed up on telecasts to pimp his latest thoughts. That really turned me off, never mind whether I agree or not, I want to see football, not more politics.
So, when Kapernick (and others) did his thing a couple of seasons ago, I started to pull away from football. Kept a finger in, watched a few games, including one of the better Super Bowls of all time, but it was more out of habit than anything else.
This year, nada. The politics turned me off completely, and the fact that the players, owners, and top brass (Goodell) told me, and everyone like me, to "Kiss Off" when we complained, proved that it was the right decision. My old favorite team made the playoffs this year, but I didn't see more than a few minutes of them playing.
Honestly? I thought that I'd miss it more. I enjoyed my Sundays, spent a lot more time with the wife and kid, and got plenty of puttering done around the house. It's far more fun to go to the park, get some exercise, and watch WBill Jr. ride his bike, than plunk my butt in front of the TV.
I'm not Boycotting, that would imply that I might go back if their behavior changes. Nope, I'm "indifferent", which for the NFL is much, much worse. For instance, quite often last season I completely forgot about the Thurs/Mon night games. I don't even give the game a thought, something that would have been totally inconceivable two years ago.
My indifference has been a while in coming. However, this year's political foolishness just proved that I made the correct decision.

I know. My son got to help carry the flag onto the field back some months ago. He was so dang proud and I was proud of him(I saw the pics). But as a long time Fins fan he knew good and well the glory of that moment would not last once the game began.
I think my grandson’s first words were “Go Dolphins!”
Even if you quit watching the games, you still have reruns of Larry Czonka, busting tackles while dragging two that were still trying, for 7, 8 yards at a time. But, the NFL will still get a few cents every time you watch him run online...
