More than half of our population are non contributors. So of course they are for it. Communism isn’t for the communists.
I can’t see where handing out welfare has made anybody less lazy or more productive. There just isn’t a free lunch.
Universal Support in Income.Let them go to work and earn it the old fashioned way.
This is why we are a republic and not a democracy. We as a society are headed to deadly trouble if we stray much further from our founding principles.

Maybe not. Suppose we figured the amount spent per person by our various welfare agencies. Add onto that per capita overhead cost to run the agencies.
If we just gave everyone an amount that was less than the above total, and on top of that we said here’s your money, spend it wisely because government has already helped you and that’s all the help you’re going to get (from Uncle Sam). States can do what they wish but Uncle Sam isn’t going to give the states money to run their welfare agencies.

The wife replies,
"The asshole had a paper route."
