A massive snowstorm Friday in Northern California could bring the state’s lengthy drought to end while leaving two feet of snow in the mountains near Los Angeles.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains has seen two feet of snow and winds gusting over 100 miles per hour. More than 22,000 Montecito residents evacuated their homes as rain continued to pound the area — California’s weather comes as a nor’easter clobbers parts of the East Coast.

“The worst of the storm has passed, and we are cautiously optimistic that due to a significant amount of pre-storm preparation we have come through this with minimal impact,” Rob Lewin, director of the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management, said in a statement.

Hmmmm. Mt. Rose outside Reno storm total=48-57 inches

Squaw Valley storm total=37-46 inches

Heavenly Valley storm total=approx 54 inches

Incline/Diamond Peak storm total=27-31 inches

News reported wind gusts to 150 mph at the ridge tops. YIKES!

My house in Reno, about 9 inches. Looks like some shoveling today. Where's them teenagers needing to earn a couple of bucks? Napping I suppose.

Be careful about checking age or the FBI will come after you for violating child labor laws.

A couple minutes ago, it was pouring BUCKETS over here on the peninsula. Giant drops! Squalled for about 15 minutes, now stopped and sun poking through. Started raining about midnight and it is supposed to continue until tonight at midnight. YAY!!

Everything is greening up nicely.

Hike at Almaden Quicksilver scheduled for yesterday morning was cancelled.

The January warm spell had everybody squawking “DOOM!” but, fortunately, not so much “I TOLD you global warming is real.”

It’s normal California winter weather.

Global warming. Antarctica is having a heat wave and all the ice is being displaced to California. It’s also very hot—don’t touch it. When it melts sea levels will rise and go on a polar bear killing spree. In open defiance, the mayor of Oakland has invited more snow into California, regardless of the climate impact.

Don’t forget that the heavy rains will cause all sorts of fuel to grow and next October — FIRES! Yet another disaster. Then the fires will leave the hills exposed and the next rainy season will cause, you guessed it! MUDSLIDES!! Yet another disaster.

How did we get along without CNN and TWC panting endlessly about our disasters? It’s just normal business here in CA, like hurricanes and nor’easters elsewhere. Yawn.
