CALEXICO, Calif. – Construction for a border wall replacement near downtown Calexico began today. The area of the border wall replacement will be an approximately 2.25-mile section replaced with 30-foot high bollard style wall. The project covers an area from approximately the Calexico West Port of Entry extending westward beyond the Gran Plaza Outlets. The project also includes around 2.25 miles of all-weather roads. The El Centro Sector wall replacement is one of Border Patrol’s highest priority projects

...and so it begins. Thirty foot high see-through steel bollards - the first of the new border barrier, based on the dramatically stronger Trump-era design standards, which came out of the prototyping process.

The project, which includes a bridge over the river, is expected to take 300 days.

We will soon see ground breaking in Eastern Mc Allen, Texas (Santa Ana Reserve), and heading West out of El Paso Texas, including the Santa Teresa Border Crossing, and probably San Diego.

I hope there are ground radars being used as more than likely there will be a surge in tunnels.

Bet this creates a news black hole.....

They won’t cover it i bet.

If they do it won’t be good.

"The current Calexico fence, looks like it's about 12 feet high."

That is the good part. On the West side of town where this formidable new 30 foot barrier is going, they had rusting Vietnam-era landing mat style fence (9-10 feet). One guy can boost another over, or a spry teenager with a running start can grab the top in one jump. It is breached (ripped or cut open) more than once a day on average, and untold numbers of crossers and drugs come over.

Fence jumping will go away entirely where this new barrier is emplaced. Breaches of bollards are rare.

“I hope there are ground radars being used as more than likely there will be a surge in tunnels.”

I hope so too. They have found tunnels there before, and it is a hot spot for drugs.

I thought the wall was dead? The POTUS can’t raise money.

“I hope the National Guard is there to protect the workers and equipment.”

This may be the test case. I suspect that Leftist organizers know that violent protests would more likely backfire on them politically during the midterms, so I expect them to focus on using corrupt judges to try to block it.

We were promised this in 1986.

Bush League Republicans have been preventing it.

There is some maintenance money included in the budget every year, that they can use with the new tougher Trump design standards. This effort is $18 million for a little over two miles of 30 foot barrier, with patrol road and a bridge.

Trump is requesting about a thousand times that much money $18 BILLION, for about a thousand miles of super barrier - double and triple barrier in some places. That would be a real game changer. That won’t happen without a big appropriation from Congress.

They should fund the wall as a beautification project. It will look really classy when it is finished.

Congress approved the wall in 2005, no?

So then, what is stopping private interests from building it, according to the new specs?

Bring the military back from the ME, and put them on the border.

The federal government would have to approve private interests building border wall, except for people building on their own land.
