Betsy DeVos and Democrats urge Congress to hold hearings on school shootings

A chorus of Democratic lawmakers have joined the education secretary, Betsy DeVos, in calling for Congress to act after a gunman killed 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Fla.

In a letter on Friday, all 17 Democrats on the House Education Committee urged Representative Virginia Foxx, the committee’s chairwoman, to convene hearings on school shootings, describing them as a “public health epidemic.”

“Wednesday’s preventable tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, resulted in the deaths of at least 17 students and faculty,” the letter said. “Sadly, since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School five years ago, more than 430 people have been shot in over 230 school shootings.”

The letter adds pressure on Congress to address the pervasiveness of school shootings across the country, an issue that Ms. DeVos raised during an interview on Thursday with the conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

“Congress needs to be holding hearings on these issues,” Ms. DeVos said, adding: “We’ve seen, you know, lots of finger pointing back and forth. But we need to have a conversation at the level where lawmakers can actually impact the future, because going back to and putting myself in the seat of one of those families impacted, one of these shootings is one too many. And we have got to have an honest conversation, and Congress has to lead on this. It’s their job."

Senator Patty Murray of Washington, the top Democrat on the Senate Education Committee, said she “wholeheartedly” agreed with the suggestion and invited Ms. DeVos to testify.

I have no problem with that. Let’s hold hearings and expose how phony the gun control movement is and how harmful their policies are.

The problem being, we’re lightyears apart on what should and could be done to address this.

as I understand it, democrats in the Senate blocked passage of a bill to spend $300 million on school security,

The only solution Democrats will accept is to remove all guns from private ownership. Which will do absolutely ZERO to stop the next lunatic who wants to make his mark on history.

In a nutshell, democrats WANT these dead kids so they can dance on their coffins to move their gunless society agenda

Societal fractures present opportunities for new market growth.
Gay “marriage”, abortion, black lives matter, prayer in schools, veganism, PETA, ethanol, organic food, electric cars, on and on..!.

Goldman Sachs has a team on the pulse of every opportunity.
Market, market, markets!
Go, team, go!
Go, team, go!
Go, team, go!

Riiiight.

I'm sure they'll start by demanding the pharmacutical companies pushing legal mind warping drugs to children pay billions in fines to the gubbermint (for the good of we da piple) and end their hearings with the recommendation that the totally useless FBI and entire Homeland Security machine be eliminated (incidently, HS organization and required authorities were based on a plan made by a former Stasi big wig).

Then again, maybe they'll take some other approach.

Put armed guards in to protect the children in our schools. (Period!).

...and if you tell me this won't work, then we need to take all security out of banks, courts and Washington, DC capital areas. Think of the money we are blowing because it "doesn't work." (can't have it both ways!)

During the Republican Party presidential primaries for the 2016 election,
DeVos initially donated to Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina
before eventually supporting Marco Rubio.
In March 2016, DeVos described Donald Trump as an “interloper”
and said that he “does not represent the Republican Party”.

I hope all involved in these hearings, especially Betsy DeVos, have a chance to read this article: Public School Control Now.

Put armed guards in every school. They need to know who is who as well and who does not belong.

I remember from back in high school in the 80’s that there were two police officers assigned to the school. One was plain clothes, the other was in uniform, and BOTH were armed.

Hey Betsy, why don’t you hold hearings on psychrotropic drugs given to kids? And also look into the correlation between such drugs and mass killings.

Lets start with trying to mainstream Autistic kids into
regular classes and let them sink like this nut .

He was autistic and he was able to buy a gun.

Bad ideas .

“more than 430 people have been shot in over 230 school shootings.”

Whoa whoa whoa.

Trying to conflate common thug-targeting and random incidental drug violence with mass murders again, huh?

Let’s strictly limit all movies and TV shows which glamorize guns and gun fights. See if anyone argues First Amendment Rights. If that goes, lets then talk about limiting assault rifles.

It’s not about tools.

It’s not about “mental health”, although that can indeed play a role in some.

It’s about CHARACTER. Our societal rot of the last 50 years has degenerated character with endless immorality and debauchery and selfishness without real self-worth. Societal rot includes Dr. Spock ideals such as “let them do what they want” and “every opinion or feeling is valid”.

We wonder why so many are turning around and killing? They’re not getting their way! Their feelings are valid - I’m mad! Why not start shooting?

This is the rot of the commie hippies over decades.

It will not be wiped out with any law.

I’m fine with it, if it leads to identification of the real issues and valid ideas for dealing with them.
