An activist group has launched a voter registration effort aimed at black voters at screenings of the Black Panther movie nationwide.
Members of the Electoral Justice Project, an offshoot of the Movement for Black Lives, are seeking to mobilize the black electorate and increase political engagement with the #WakandaTheVote campaign, the website Blavity reported.
Wakanda is the fictional African nation featured in the long-anticipated Marvel film Black Panther.
Kayla Reed, Jessica Byrd and Rukia Lumumba founded the Electoral Justice Project last year, and told Blavity that the movement has been effective because we meet our communities where they are, whether that's in the streets, at the city council meeting, or in the movie theater.
"This weekend we wanted to meet our people in Wakanda," Byrd and Reed told Blavity. We know that for some it's a superhero world, but we know that the world we deserve is still waiting to be built and we want to build it.
The projects website notes that volunteers will be wearing Wakanda inspired outfits to help moviegoers register to vote.
Byrd and Reed told Blavity that they plan to further their efforts ahead of the 2018 midterm elections by holding a campaign manager institute called the Electoral Justice League, and to have thousands of conversations with black voters about upcoming elections.
We want to take every opportunity to engage our communities in the conversation of electoral justice, they said
Now it’s gone too far.
This is bizarre.
[We want to take every opportunity to engage our communities in the conversation of electoral justice, they said.]
Is that like “mob rule?
Stay on the plantation, vote Democrat.
see? the SorozNazi/DNC continues its campaign to seize power again
whereas... well, where is there any conservative voter registration campaign of like (potential, anyway) magnitude?
It’s a free country.
Lordy,a grandson going with friends tonight-—the late show-——hope all goes well.
its a great time to be black- just not in real life
Put up the quad chart showing how the dems voted on their freedoms and rights. Sign them up as Republicans.
slightly, still. yes
Will the local the public nuisance/solicitation/harassment laws be enforced? Unlikely. I can see some fisticuffs breaking out at quite a few malls and galerias, if any are left. Then again, no self-respecting human being would bother to spend a dime on this BLM-fueled, feel-good, multi-culti shitfest, unless they’re a hormone-deficient white with emotional and self-esteem issues.
Re: Black voter registration effort launched at Black Panther screenings
“Black Panther” is a comic book character created and made famous by two white guys.
The film was produced by Marvel Studios, a company that was started and still run by an Israeli-American.
The film is being distributed by Walt Disney Studios, a company founded by “Mr. White Bread” himself.
Within a couple weeks, Black activists and the Hard Left MSM will be demanding that Marvel and Disney give the Black actors a major share of the profits.
That is some beautiful writing right there. But from what Ive heard, the film itself isnt very multi-culti, as the Wakandans are apparently a homogeneous society, walled off from the rest of the world (whitey).
Nevertheless, I really love your terse, focused writing style :-)
Feh. They have every legal right to sign up voters.
I hope this doesn’t illegally influence the outcome of Wakandan elections! That would be a black day for Wakanda.
Why isn’t anyone complaining about the lack of diversity in this movie?
That could be regarded as Wakandian collusion.
