Gun Owners of America Statement on Florida Shooting
The Truth About Guns ^ | 02/15/18 | Robert Farago

Posted on 02/16/2018 7:00:24 AM PST by Simon Green

Springfield, VA – Executive Director of Gun Owners of America (GOA) Erich Pratt stated the following after the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida:

“This tragedy breaks everyone’s heart at Gun Owners of America, and we send our sincere thoughts and prayers to everyone effected. It is disturbing to see a coward attack students who are so treasured by friends and loved ones.

“However, it is disgusting to see media pundits and politicians calling for gun control as the knee-jerk reaction to this tragedy.

“The fact is this tragedy happened in a gun free zone, where sadly over 98 percent of the public mass shootings occur.

“Furthermore, anti-gun liberals tell us that these types of shootings don’t occur in other countries. But that’s a lie. The U.S. is not even in the top ten when one compares international death rates resulting from mass shootings.

“Some lawmakers may seek to implement more restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms, such a the misnamed ‘NICS Fix’ legislation. However, no form of gun control will help prevent these tragedies.

“Instead, GOA calls on Congress to immediately pass the ‘Safe Students Act,’ legislation introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), to repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act, which enable evil doers by leaving teachers, school administrators, and parents unable to protect students. In fact, 81 percent of police officers support arming teachers to stop school shootings.

“Lastly, GOA calls on state legislatures, including Florida lawmakers, to pass Constitutional Carry legislation to remove the unnecessary legal barriers to carry a firearm.”

Erich Pratt, or another GOA spokesperson, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over 1.5 million members and activists. The teachers and staff at the school were being applauded as the “real” first responders.

If only some of them had been armed...

American women need guns to protect themselves from being beaten and raped as happens in Europe.

I can hear the hoplophobes now:

“How DARE you politicize this tragedy after we’ve just politicized it!”

The standard mantra of the gun grabbers is quickly becoming "If you're not in favor of gun control, SHUT UP!".

This should be the headline: “this tragedy happened in a gun free zone, where sadly over 98 percent of the public mass shootings occur."

Should be a federal law each classroom must have a safety locker of at least one set of body armor, a shield, tasers and imho at least a bean bag device or simply a shotgun.

Nutcases like this usually turn tail against return fire.

Heck, just give the teachers a flare gun!

Or a non-fatal self-defense weapon such as a 'stun gun', or pepper spray

This whole reaction is disgusting to me and I don’t even own a gun. There has been no real discussion about the environment these killers grow up in, the role of social media, the impact of medication, the role of schools and any number of societal reasons that may be contributing to these killings. Just getting rid of a certain type of gun is only a feel-good measure for liberals who dare not really address the real issues that are causing these youths to turn into murderers. I suspect because it would reflect terribly on their mores and beliefs.

That’s the Liberal/Progressive attitude on most issues.

I am amazed by people who place their “valuables” in safe places protected by firearms and then send their children to school in “gun free zones”.

I disagree. the guns carried by teachers should be their own and ones with which they are familiar and practiced and which are on their person for immediate use in an emergency.

The first seconds are very important. If the shooter is opposed, immediately his plans change.

Put signs out front of the school that “Employees are armed. CCW license holders are welcome to carry.

That will keep the creeps out of your school.

To my surprise I have not found the aversion of guns to be a problem with teachers. Most of them would prefer to carry whatever their politics.

The trustworthy ones can qualify for a CCW without any problems. The others aren’t going to be able to qualify.

It might be helpful too to state in your recruitment ads that you must be willing to get your CCW. Build the marketing.
