Putin had to approve Russian attack on US troops
New York Post ^ | Feb. 14, 2018 | Ralph Peters

It was inevitable. Russian “mercenaries” attacked a forward base in Syria where they knew American advisors were stationed. It was a test. And our military passed.

Let’s hope the administration passes, too.

The most important thing about this attack on our troops is that it couldn’t have happened without Vladimir Putin’s personal approval. Nye vozmozhno.

The core of the attacking force came from the Wagner Group, Russia’s version of the American thugs who worked for the company formerly known as Blackwater. But while the media refers to the Russians as mercenaries, the Wagner Group functions as an auxiliary of the Russian military — it previously gave command performances in Crimea and eastern Ukraine. It exists to give Moscow (barely) plausible deniability.

“It was a test. And our military passed.”

If Hitlery was prez, she would have told our military to lie there and die.

He and his political ilk may parade around in Orthodox symbols and Western business suits, but they have the beating hearts of Bolsheviks and homo soviectus. KGB uniforms still hanging in their closet.

“Russia’s version of the American thugs who worked for the company formerly known as Blackwater”

This says a lot about how the author allows his personal feelings cloud his judgement and analysis.

Put in is a murderer many times over. Journalists who write unflattering articles are found the next day in pieces. Anyone who challenges him gets put in prison or irradiated. He is filth.

Uh Oh, you are going to get flamed for telling the truth about the “savior to the Western world.”

Putin was willing to risk a large number of his men in the hope they’d kill enough American advisers to make us flee Syria. It didn’t work, but Putin won’t give up. He’s paid a much higher price in Syria than he initially expected, and he wants a return on his investment. He’ll try other ways to drive us out, perhaps using terror attacks to kill Americans. The Russians are at war with us, and we’re at war with them, but both sides would find an admission inconvenient.

I used to like this guy Peters, but now I realize he's nothing more that a neocon warmonger. The US has NO business being in Syria. None. What is the US interest in Syria? None. Maybe doing the dirty work for the Israelis?

Putin personally involved? Possibly. But l think not. Any Russian troops have the authority of self-defense without having to call all the way up to the kremlin. (Very much Unlike American troops under obama’s Regime)

Waiting for FR Putin worshipers.

I'll bite.

Good luck on your war in Syria. Obama and McCain are happy you are carrying on the struggle. How many nations and groups are fighting in that country now? 13?

"...Russia’s version of the American thugs who worked for the company formerly known as Blackwater. "

This garbage keeps me from reading any further in the article...This ruski group has a totally different purpose than the veterans who worked for Blackwater (and still do albeit within renamed organizations)...

Not only is he not savior of the Western world, but he most certainly is NOT savior of Russia. And Russians across the generational spectrum are in denial because they too still have their hearts back in the Soviet Union while also craving the tsars of yesteryear. My observation while there.

And yes I saw the story that the Russians were on an offensive. Hard to say through the fog of war. But that could be correct too. We still haven’t been given a good reason why American forces invaded Syria in the first place. Or why they’re still there. It doesn’t appear to help USA or Israel or anyone else other than Saudi arabia’s Oil pipeline scheme. Which we sure as hell don’t need

“Good luck”

I’m sure Defense Secretary Mattis, the Trump administration, and our troops and humanitarian workers appreciate your well wishes.

Either that, or she would have started two more wars. As a side note, the author of the article, Ralph Peters, supported Hillary over Trump in the last election. Just sayin’.

What war in Syria.

For the record, I have always been against the U.S. having any involvement there. The civil war has been in our interest. I wish Obama and Trump wouldn't be doing anything there.

If Putin wants to serve his Iranian masters by fighting there, that's his business, but let's not pretend he's some kind of hero or fighting against the bad guys or protecting Christians.
