DAMASCUS, Feb 13 (Reuters) - The Syrian government said on Tuesday that Israel would face "more surprises" in future attacks on Syria's territory, after Syrian air defences shot down an Israeli F-16 jet.
Syrian anti-aircraft fire downed the F-16 as it returned from a bombing raid on Iran-backed positions in Syria early on Saturday. Both Iran and Russia are supporting President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's near seven-year civil war.

Although I disagree with a the author of that piece on a few points, it’s important to realize that this is yet a future event and I’m not taking a dogmatic approach on what might happen.
That Ezekiel 38 & 39 will happen after Isaiah 17:1 is something I do agree with.

I pity all those ‘scholars’ that believe that the Old Testament is ‘old’ because everything in it has already transpired. Not even close to being true.
Many verses speak of the Great Tribulation (or ‘the time of Jacob’s trouble’) and many more speak of the 1,000 year rule of Jesus Christ upon the earth (or the Millennium).
There is quite a few things that will be yet new in the Old Testament.

The Syrians were able to shoot down one F-16, probably with Russian mercenaries operating the missile batteries and not Syrian operators.
The Syrians reputedly fired about 25 missiles in order to get a lucky shot on one F-16.
The Israelis then destroyed about 12 Syrian SAM sites.
Not exactly a proud accomplishment
