I Looked the Man (Putin) in the Eye and Saw ... the Enemy (Bush Flashback)

In 2001, President George Bush issued a truly astounding appraisal of Vladimir Putin, the former KGB agent who has run Russia since replacing Boris Yeltsin in 1999. "I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country." Bush got it half right. Putin was absolutely committed to Russia and Russia's interests. But trustworthy? I think Bush's own CIA and FBI specialists would have told him to read his intelligence briefs more closely before opening his mouth.

Today's New York Times has a fascinating story about an elaborate Russian spy ring whose job was to pose as ordinary U.S.residents while gathering intelligence on nuclear weapons, U.S. policy toward Iran, CIA activities and congressional politics among other things. But don't stop reading there. Comrade J, a 2007 book by former Washington Post reporter Pete Early, tells the fascinating story of Sergei Tretyakov, a former KGB officer who became a top officer in the KGB's successor agency, the SVR, after the Soviet Union collapsed. I recently read the book and couldn't believe my eyes. This is a detailed account of activities that Russian intelligence agents conducted in the United States for years after our leaders -- mainly Bush and Bill Clinton -- sorely mistook the supposedly democratic Russian leadership as our friend.

Clinton guffawed and slapped Yeltsin on the back during one famous, drunken episode on stage. Bush praised Yeltsin as a straight shooter. While we diverted our attention and intelligence resources to the war on terrorism after9/11, Russian agents enjoyed a field day in this country. All the while, the Russians were directing serious covert operations

Yeah right. Well, we saw the same thing when seeing Bush’s image in a mirror. Unfortunately, he didn’t.

The national debt nearly doubled under him, and the nation melted down at the end of his watch.

What a total wanker.

Right now, Bush is giving more aid and comfort to the Democrats than Putin.

Mr. laydownandlettheleftstompyourheadin has been called up by the deep state to bolster their coup narrative.

GWB is a disgrace.

Jeb! can’t do it, he’s still sitting in the Bush family cellar with a genital cuff on.

GHWB just sits and drools. His glory days of ushering in a new world order on the heels of Reagan a distant memory. He and McCain should hold hands and walk to the light.

Dallas News. Honestly, I know of nothing they print that ever jabs anywhere but against the Right. Typical metro news slant.

43's judgment of Bill Clinton:

Mr. Bush said it "starts with [him] being a person refusing to lord his victory over dad. Dad was willing to rise above the political contest. Both men displayed strong character. Why do I have a friendship with him? Well, he's called a brother with a different mother."

Russia needs a Right to Life leader and Putin can’t claim to be for all ethnic Russians everywhere until he supports protecting Russian babies between conception and birth.

If Russians came to America illegally they would be liked more than citizens.

A ruddy, dirty, flickering light.

Absolutely trustworthy.

You can trust a fire to consume everything it can.

You can trust a bank robber to take the money and run

You can trust a cancerous growth to continue to grow as long and as large as it can.

*ALL* international relations are ‘Beggar (bugger) thy neighbor. It’s a zero sum game and no leader worth the name fails to try to take full advantage of every relationship on the planet.

Putin is doing exactly what he should be doing: increasing the power and prestige of Russia; if that is at the expense of us or China, so much the better.

GREAT old book:

They make this sound like it's something new. It's always been that way and will continue. Nobody mentions China. They are just as bad as the Russians and are probably loving not being the center of attention. Then there's the Arab world, North Korea, on and on.

That’s such a myth. Gerald Ford put Bush in at the CIA as a POLITICAL APPOINTEE when he was 52 years old. For less than a year. Bush doesn’t have any real CIA background.

I’m referring to the whole Plame/Wilson affair. That smells a lot like the current situation with DOJ/FBI. It happened during the election and ought to have cost him the election and almost did. It then led to the Scooter Libby prosecution, a fake investigation not unlike the situation now with Mueller.

I see it as a coup attempt, like the current one.
