Air Force general behind 5G memo leaves White House
Stars & Stripes ^ | 2/3/18 | Josh Roggin

The author of a memo arguing for a government takeover of development of the nation's 5G mobile network has been removed from the National Security Council staff. The memo's unauthorized release this week caused uproar in the telecom community and created embarrassment for the White House

A senior administration official confirmed that Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Spalding is no longer serving as NSC senior director for strategic planning. Spalding was not fired, according to the official, who said his detail had ended and was not renewed. His last day as a White House staffer was Jan. 31. Spalding was not implicated in the leak of the memo, but officials said his advocacy for the plan had gone beyond his role, contributing to the NSC leadership's decision to send him back to the Air Force.

Spalding was informed that his White House tenure was ending last week, the senior administration official said, before his memo and PowerPoint proposal was leaked. The Jan. 28 Axios storysparked alarm, drawing opposition from major telecom companies and catching the White House off guard.

More Swamp draining. I have never in my political knowledge seen such a President who has held true to his campaign promises.

I suppose he wasn’t “too big to fail”.

Reads like he was let go before he leaked the information - perhaps in retaliation.

Spalding was informed that his White House tenure was ending last week, the senior administration official said, before his memo and PowerPoint proposal was leaked.

I knew this didn’t come from Trump.
Only a Bush-Obama type would suggest something as stupid.

Mixed feelings on this
“ Unauthorized release” means another leak
If you want to intimidate your best and brighhtest from even proposing bold ideas, this is how to do it

The most dangerous time in a senior officers career is B.G.

They get high enough to have their own opinions, but not high enough to be protected by the system.

"You and me both."

I firmly believe more to come. Funny thing is, I can't stand to watch Pres. Trump talk because he is so inarticulate. However, I'd rather have a strong leader than a smarmy glib orator like a Clinton or a Hussein who are all talk. Give me results and that's what we're getting while driving the Lib/socialists insane, I mean literally mental.

Really didn't believe I'd see this day with Hillary being the shoe-in. Thought it was all over for our Republic.

For some reason, I knew he was going to win. I really didn’t have any doubt. I went to predictIt dot com and won $1,000.00 supporting the Trump win against the odds.

If you didn’t watch the State of the Union presentation, I think you would be pleasantly surprised. It was his best teleprompter useage yet. Very smooth and powerful...

It has been a stretch for him. I know what you mean.

I don’t focus on it.

Didn't watch the whole thing because I couldn't look at the hateful faces of the Dims anymore. Have read that even some Dims and some MSM gave him kudos for a great speech.

I realize he thinks he won by his Tweets while by-passing the MSM. Just wish he would temper them a little. He's got the juice to obviously get things done, but he should listen to his advisors a little more regarding his rhetoric, which could win over some undecideds. But then he beat out Hillary, so who am I to give advice? Ha.

Perfection of a department, in my mind, is points of view from all sides. He didn’t publish this memo, someone stole it unauthorized and some officials (who) judged him responsible. It was not aimed for public consumption to disrupt or was even published in full. The public doesn’t even know what was in the memo, just “parts” of it. And White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Jan. 29 that consideration of the plan was at its “earliest stages” and the administration was nowhere near a decision. Creating an action that is geared to one way without looking at others is what a liberal would do as they have an agenda to complete, not a plan to improve. I would like to have a reasonable hope that we left that way of business when Trump stepped into the White House and Obama walked out to his continuing next job of harming the country.

When I first posted the article that informed us of this proposal, I offered in comment #1 the admonition the author must be fired.

Today.

Looks like it took about 3 days.

I got a kick out of watching them. They looked like spoiled children.

It was priceless to see the large Black contingent sitting on their hands and glaring as Trump mentioned the lowest unemployment rates for Blacks and Hispanics since record keeping began. Obama accomplished nothing like that.

70% of CNN's audience liked the speech. Now that's saying something. It is true that more Republicans watched, so we do have to take some of that luster off. Still...

I realize he thinks he won by his Tweets while by-passing the MSM. Just wish he would temper them a little. He's got the juice to obviously get things done, but he should listen to his advisors a little more regarding his rhetoric, which could win over some undecideds. When I review things like this, I have to check myself. I do try to put a favorable spin on things for Trump (an us) when it makes sense, but I also want to try to be objective.

When it comes to his tweets, I think there is a method to his madness. He tweets out a rant, and then does something else good while they are focused on his rants.

This week he had the Nunez memo to focus the media's attention on. During the midst of it, ICE demanded work records from 77 businesses in the San Francisco area. You hardly heard a peep about it in the press.

Rush trotted out this explanation in the way of strategy, and I think he's probably got a good point.

These people haven't had someone fight back or confront them for decades. They don't know how to handle it. I think his tweets confound them. They expect the public to defend them, and the public is off focused on something else.

I don't care if he dances in public nude, if he gets our agenda passed. Okay, well,... that may be a bit too much LOL.

He really misleads them. They think they have a deal. Our guys like Graham do too. Even people here start insulting him. And then he makes it clear, he hasn't abandoned us.

In the last day or so he addressed the retreat, and said that his negotiations with the Democrats over DADA were smoke and mirrors, and he's still in our camp.

He's playing hardball dirty politics with them, and it's the first time I've seen it done from our side, at least like this.

I'm going to be very patient with him.

I frequently hear comments by those who wish he would stop with the tweets and modify his rhetoric, but my fervent hope is that he continues to ignore such criticisms, because I don’t want him to get the thought in his head that he needs to be “groomed” and “coached” by ANYONE. Someone authored a book, just published, entitled “Let Trump Be Trump”. I think that’s great advice.
