And most Americans wouldn’t last 10 minutes driving in China.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by Asian driving.

Chinese in the PRC drive their cars as if they are still riding bicycles like back in Mao’s day. In two marked traffic lanes you’ll have four lanes of cars weaving around in a mass of competing metal. Funny thing, but Italians drive in much the same manner yet somehow manage to avoid the accidents that are common place every day in Chinese cities.

When I first went to Japan in 1957 we were told that the taxi drivers were Kamikaze washouts and survivors.

All the cabs in the ‘Far East’ were interesting, Bangkok in 59 was almost like Yokosuka...

We were also advised to not eat the vegetables but then again what two fisted American lads of 17 and 18 would waste time eating veggies?

In Hong Kong Mary Tsu would paint your ship and take your garbage....Don’t know of any truth to the rumor that the fine Hong Kong restaurants were the recipient of her good luck..

Interesting times...

First time I went to China we had a company van pick us up at the hotel every morning and drive us to the facility. Each morning it was basically “Mr Toad’s Wild Ride”. Early on I told my coworkers “I guarantee we will at least drive on the sidewalk at least once this week.” Our driver did not disappoint. Driving in China is an experience to say the least.
