DOJ files motion to dismiss Menendez indictment

The Justice Department moved on Wednesday to dismiss charges against Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) after a federal judge tossed out several charges against the lawmaker last week.

"In light of the Court’s January 24, 2018 Opinion and Order and pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 48(a), the United States of America moves to dismiss the Superseding Indictment," Annalou Tirol, the acting head of the Justice Department's public integrity division, wrote in a motion to dismiss the indictment.

U.S. District Judge William Walls moved last week to acquit Menendez and his co-defendant Salomon Melgen on seven of the 18 charges they faced in their corruption and bribery trial.

That decision came days after the Justice Department announced that it intended to retry Menendez after Wall declared a mistrial in the case in November.

I know the guy is a creep and probably guilty of all kinds of things, but didn’t this come about as a result of some kind of disagreement between Obama and the senator

Yes, this was payback from Obama against Menendez for crossing him.
As slimy a creature as he is, what he was charged with could be charged against every Senator.

Menendez was dead set against normalized Cuba relations, his family came from Cuba.

I was wondering that as well. Given the say Obama weaponized the Executive Branches of government, it wouldn’t surprise me.

More like Obama used the DOJ as a political weapon to keep his opponents in line and Trumps AG surrendered it back to the Democrats as his first order of business.

In shocking move, feds drop all charges against Sen. Bob Menendez

“Given the impact of the court's Jan. 24 order on the charges and the evidence admissible in a retrial, the United States has determined that it will not retry the defendants on the remaining charges," said Department of Justice spokeswoman Nicole Navas Oxman.

In a statement, Menendez said he never wavered in his innocence and his belief that justice would prevail.

"I am grateful that the Department of Justice has taken the time to reevaluate its case and come to the appropriate conclusion," he said. "I thank God for hearing my prayers and for giving me strength during this difficult time. I have devoted my life to serving the people of New Jersey, and am forever thankful for all who have stood by me. No matter the challenges ahead, I will never stop fighting for New Jersey and the values we share."

this isn’t that shocking. They’d be trying him forever...hung jury after hung jury...

If they couldn’t convict Mike Espy, they never were going to convict Menendez
