When I was in London, they were all over the place. I just got dizzy from the circling LOL
Concourses, yes ... but the runways are straight.
Roger that! Think about the lateral pressure on the landing gear and tires, the fact that your crosswind will potentially change during the course of your takeoff/landing roll (just when you already have a full workload!), and what about wet runways?
Apparently, outside access to the terminal is underground.
What do tickets for that go for?
This Dutch guy will be so upset when his brain(less)child isnt just adored by all. Theyre like that, proggies. Better he work on high tech pork-enhanced chastity belts for their wimin.
Why not square runways?
Four sides and no crosswinds on at least two of them...............
Circles. Think Circles. When it's their turn, they just wing over into their dive for the deck.
The first gas powered airplane I had already used this innovation. ‘Course, it had a string coming out of one of the wings.
Does it have circular runways?
Yes, it was fun walking around in circles....................
No, just the regular kind. The terminal is circular................
Hey, if they can design “inverted wedding cake” airspace, “spiral-cut ham” airspace shouldn’t be that much of a challenge.
Lots of friends that work at Boeing. Every time this comes up, you should hear the howls from the Engineers. Dumbest. Idea. Ever. Trying to remember all their objections ... First and foremost, very few places on the planet where you could put a 2 mile diameter runway and have it all be flat. I know as a fact that Seattle would not have an airport if that was a requirement. Even a 2 mile diameter runway would ALWAYS have crosswind because the radius is only 1 mile, so the landing arc is tight for jets that typically land on 1 mile plus runways, and in fact, it would be almost impossible to land without either the crosswind starting on 1 side then ending on the other, or starting with a headwind and ending with a tailwind. Either way, landings would get a lot trickier and there would be a lot more accidents. Cost to build would be incredible, both in land acquisition and materials.
Let’s see... A circular pattern is often used at airports with linear runways, so...
... maybe a linear, back-and forth, pattern? That would certainly make it exciting for the passengers.
;-)
>>A figure 8 runway would be cool!
A Möbius strip runway would be even cooler.
Sometimes, a “brain child” turns out to be just a “brain-fart”...
Yeah...what could go wrong? Would the Brit pilots land the same direction as the Americans? That’s how Churchill almost got killed crossing the street in NYC! He looked the wrong direction!
