Conservative commentator Bill Kristol gave an interview to CNBC where criticized the editorial direction of his former network Fox News, particularly with regard to primetime host Tucker Carlson.
Speaking with John Harwood, the former Fox contributor said his old network has embraced a gradual increasing of recklessness as they try to appeal to pro-Trump audiences. Kristol said Fox saw an opportunity to seize upon opposition to Barack Obamas presidency, and he also expanded on what he told Morning Joe about how Fox is leaning towards the hard right and views that used to exist on the political fringe.
Now Fox is sort of 75 percent of it seems to be birther-like coverage of different issues. Thats been, I think, bad, said Kristol. Kristol especially expressed concern about Carlsons recent commentary about race, saying its getting very close to racist territory.
He had always a little touch of Pat Buchananism, I would say, paleo-conservativism. But thats very different from what hes become now. I mean, it is close now to racism, white I mean, I dont know if its racism exactly but ethno-nationalism of some kind, lets call it. A combination of dumbing down, as you said earlier, and stirring peoples emotions in a very unhealthy way.
Kristol also this anecdote about how his time on Fox was reduced after he refused a request from Roger Ailes.
He asked me to do something. It was nothing to do with anything that was on the air. He wasnt trying to tell me what to say.
He wanted me to call up people here in Washington and basically blackball someone who had run afoul of him on a totally separate matter in New York. And it seemed kind of crazy to me, and I wasnt going to do it. I didnt know what happened, but I wasnt going to just take his word for it and start calling about some other person I slightly knew and say, Dont hire this person.
So I just said, No. Suddenly, you know, I remember that Sunday I was pulled off Fox News Sunday. Gradually I was cut back over the next year. So maybe Roger was getting more cranky and odd in his older age, but anyway that was the story.
UPDATE 10:21 a.m. ET Tucker Carlson is firing back. In a statement provided to Mediaite, the Fox News host responded to Kristols scathing comments.
Im not even sure what hes accusing me of, Carlson said. He offers no evidence or examples, just slurs, and then suggests that Im the demagogue. Pretty funny. Kristols always welcome on my show to explain himself, though I assume hes too afraid to come. What a shame. It would be revealing.
Bill Kristol is a Cheap Labor Express propagandist.
He has been trying to convince us for decades that we have to surrender our country to a tidal wave of illegal aliens.
Kristol needs a long vacation at the funny farm. That’s no joke...
+1
Bill who? That’s the problem...
Cuckservative soyboy blatherer Bill Kristol...
He’s just a rather typical loser whose complete lack of character shows through when things get tough. He’s a total failure.
I know for a fact there are at least 63 genders. Is that true of racism too? Are there 63 types of racism?
So, there is:
Pangender racism,
Genderqueer / non-binary racism,
Agender (genderless) racism,
Ethno-Nationalism of Some Kind racism,
Close Now to Racism racism,
etc, etc, ad nausium etc, etc
I feel so edjucated now - you learn SOOOOO much from lieberals!
Kristols always welcome on my show to explain himself, though I assume hes too afraid to come. What a shame. It would be revealing.
And that, my FRiends, is what we call a b**** slap. And well-delivered.
If ad hominem is all you’ve got, you’ve lost the argument.
I thought little Billy had retired. Don’t see him around much anymore. Maybe Americans just don’t care what he thinks.
Bill Kristol:
“White working class should be replaced by immigrants”
Don’t believe me, eh..?

I guess no one has told him but he seems highly irrelevant, like white noise. Did that sound racist?
He’s not anything-servative. He’s a liberal that has been mugged by unreality.
Kristol was a milquetoast from when I first saw him on This Week with David Brinkley and was shocked even more when he wilted under the attacks on W and didn’t even bother to put up a defense.
He’s not a conservative in any shape or form and I think he’s just been a con man as other, so-called, conservatives - taking the money and playing a role.
Too bad Hillary could not break the Kristol Ceiling.
Who cares what this fool thinks?
