BTW - up here in Seattle they recently passed Sound Transit 3 - a third increase in taxes to expand the rapid transit system. Of course part of it is to raise revenue for the still uncompleted and unpaid first and second phases! Although those parts didn’t get the press that the shiny new routes got. (Which will no doubt require a ST-4 and 5).

You know that old saying about giving an inch; they then take A MILE! And in this case each mile cost $50 million.

It's like those crooked road construction crews that rolls out every night in the I95 here in Florida. They block off miles of roadway every night so that the 30 minute commute home takes you over an hour. However when you stop and check how much work is actually being done, I think it's more like 100 Feet per night! You see dozens of tractors, hundreds of crews, bulldozers, etc which I think that their presence is merely for show & billing purposes. The corruption stinks to high heavens.

The “Big Dig” at least was a (corrupt) attempt to solve an actual problem. Traffic flow into and out of Boston was horrible. Re-working the freeway routes was inevitable.

This California train has no actual purpose. Outside the crowded northeast, long distance travel in North America is by road and air, not rail. This is a non-problem with an expensive and wasteful solution.

$50M/mile=~$1/mm

That’s just a tad on the pricy side, no?

Well as these crooked politicians always say “it’s only the taxpayers money”. Just look at the bondoogle of what they are trying to pull off with the rail system in Kalifornia!
