The Senate broke its budget impasse Monday as Democrats joined Republicans in voting to end debate on a short-term spending bill that would reopen the government and provide funding through Feb. 8.

The upper chamber was expected to quickly approve the bill, and House members were told to await a possible vote Monday afternoon, raising the possibility that the shutdown would end after just three days.

"We will vote today to reopen the government," Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a speech on the Senate floor. The vote was 81-18 to move ahead on the spending bill.

Yup. Seems Dems are letting go of the DACA hold up on reopening the govt. so long as the issue gets resolved in the coming weeks.

Yes. His polling numbers told him he had to blink or be blinded in both eyes by his angry constituents.

Maybe they figured out that their strategy of blaming Trump and waiting for him to fold wasn’t going to work.

“So did Schumer blink?”

ABSOLUTELY - There were enough Dems to re-open government with or without Schumer’s support.

Believe it or not, but the Republicans just handed Schumer and his Dems a HUGE DEFEAT - they got nothing new since Friday...but they said U.N.C.L.E. and now the government is re-opened./

The “Bipartisan Caucus” of Democrats that won’t get reelected if this schit continues demanded that Schumer end this, no matter how much Soros is paying for it!

The Democrat polling must have been OFF THE SCALES horrible for them to fold like this.

Did McConnell just gut our wall? I think he allows a free standing vote on DACA if there is no immigration bill by FEB 8!! That is outrageous!! WTF????? The leverage we have to get the WALL is DACA— If you seperate that — we have nothing!!!!. Trump must take immediate action and mandate a veto!! We have been SCREWED by the RINO??? This will not stand.

81-18

Dems think that Trump will cave on immigration. He won’t

Schumer just sweated through the worst weekend of his career. McConnell basically declared victory and offered him a way out of an untenable position. Throwing the Dems a crumb that he will bring a discussion of DACA to the floor of the senate is a nothing burger.

Winning!

I’m going with McConnell caved. Schmuckie’s speech was an embarrassment to McConnell and was so infuriating, I had to switch the channel.

“so long as the issue gets resolved in the coming weeks.”

“Resolved.” Now that it appears that the GOP have located their formerly missing cojones, maybe DACA will be resolved in a good way.

I’d say that they saw some internal polling, and the numbers were not good for them.

It worked out to our advantage because getting out there with the #shumershutdown, and #illegalsbeforeamericans. It also didn’t help the Dems when even cnn was against them.

Meanwhile, over at Daily Kos/CNN:

“More congressional delay means another 2,200 DACA recipients will become vulnerable to deportation”
