Senate Democrats have blocked a bill to keep the federal government running and fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the next six years. They have, that is, partially shut the government down.
They have taken this step not because of any strong objection to provisions of the funding bill but because it omits a provision they want: an amnesty for illegal immigrants who came to our country as minors.
Most Republicans, including President Trump, favor this amnesty as well, but the parties have been unable to agree on what other policies, such as restrictions on follow-on immigration from the amnesty, should be coupled with it.
The Democrats are trying to spin the media and the public into thinking that the shutdown is the Republicans’ responsibility, pointing out that Republicans “control” both chambers of Congress and the White House and that several Senate Republicans voted against the bill too. It remains the case that the government would be fully open for business if Democrats had not voted against a bill — a bill, again, which has nothing of substance they oppose — to get leverage for the policy they favor. The Democrats’ negotiating stance is: Give us this amnesty, or we’ll make the government shut down and blame you Republicans for it. It is the exact tactic they decried in 2013, when Republicans refused to pass legislation to keep the government funded unless Democrats agreed to a partial repeal of Obamacare.
The majority of Republicans who favor the amnesty, and even the minority of Republicans who favor it with no strings attached, should not reward this Democratic behavior. They should not reward it even if it is true that the public will fall for the Democratic spin and Republicans will sustain some political damage.

This will end the exact same way it ended when Obama was president. The Republicans will fracture and begin in-fighting, calling each other out, and criticizing each other. The Democrats will get what they want and the Republicans will be perceived as losers and be even more gun shy of pushing their agenda. The only thing that might be different, Democrats and Republicans might have to override a Trump veto, which they will do easily.

The majority of the GOP Senators favor amnesty for all 30 million illegal aliens and their employers.
The minority (4 or 5) stand with the citizens and the rule of law.
McConnell and Pansy Graham need to get out. Both are fools.
End the 60 vote rule. And would someone tell Pansy that Stephen Miller is not in the way of a bad immigration rule all by his lonesome. Trump and The American voters do not want DACA or amnesty crap.
When will Mitch go nuclear? When will Mitch give him recess appt privileges back?
The Mueller probe worries me more than the entire Shmuckdown.

The 60 vote rule won’t end. The votes aren’t there, not even close. It won’t even be voted on and Trump knows it. He’s just trolling the Democrats.
Trump won’t fold. The Dems will.
There’s going to be a vote at 1AM Eastern.
Might be interesting, though I don’t think it will end there. Schumer got played, it was beautiful. He looked suicidal in the chamber before the last vote, he realized Trump had trapped him into a shutdown.
The Dems tried their usual one-way deal and got told to pound sand. Every Republican voted with Trump, and so did 5 Democrats. We’re in the driver’s seat, just have to wait them out now.
Graham has been trashing the White House and House GOPers ever since his stupid proposal blew up in his face.

We did fine without CHIP before. We don’t need it now.

As this goes on, it shows how smart Trump was to have the televised meeting where he said he would take the heat for Dreamers (not for all the others) - he has taped proof he would not deport the 800K but wanted other things for it - makes the Dims look as bad as they are.
