British tourists are being warned they should stay inside their resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The Jamaican government has declared a state of emergency in the St James parish, after a number of "shooting incidents".
The Foreign Office has told British tourists to stay in the confines of their hotels as a "major military operation" takes place.
About 200,000 British tourists visit Jamaica every year.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "[Tourists] should follow local advice including restrictions in selected areas, and exercise particular care if travelling at night.
"[They] should stay in their resorts and limit travel beyond their respective security perimeters."

Have they blamed Pres Trump yet?
I just did
Jamaica is part pretty, but mostly Sh*thole and SCARY!
I have been there and will not go back.
Ditto. Stayed on campus. The place was overrun with extras from the Sopranos. Fat, hairy, sunburned drunks, all sporting Mr. T starter kits.
I’m surprised there are criminals left in Jamaica. I thought they all moved up here.
Oh my, this from the country that banned private gun ownership in the early 1970s with it’s Gun Court law and is now one of the most violent on earth.
If Brits want to get shot at by Jamaicans, they need not travel farther than London.
Your post makes me think of how hard it is to believe that when ones like WLMK and Louis St Laurent were our PMs, Toronto had a strict curfew law and a “more British than the King” mindset. ‘Cause we know what violent crime in Toronto has been a good deal about since the 1970s era but it’s not talked about in respectful company, eh?
Been to Jamaica 3 times. Negril is our choice of resort destinations. But you cant go anywhere in Jamaica without landing in Montego Bay.
Now I want a meat pie and some Jerk Chicken.

You just might be
in a third-world hell hole!
No joke. When we stepped off the cruise ship we had to fight through all the drug dealers on the pier. We took a tour that showed us the "rest" of Jamaica... the part the tourists don't usually see. It was appalling.
When we were re-bording the ship, passing through customs was worse then going through a line at the airport as they searched for illegal marijuana. Was glad to depart and not return.
I've traveled around Jamaica on their ‘mini-buses’ (driving down the road at just under the speed of light, trying not to pay attention to how crazy the drivers were, and just hanging and eating sugar cane). It was just us and the native Jamaicans. Definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone at this point, but I did get to see a lot of Jamaica, escape tourism, and eat real native Jamaican food in places no tourist generally ever goes. Kingston has always had the capacity to be dangerous, and there is an industry in under the table currency trading in the city. The center of Jamaica is rain forest, and beautiful. I think there is a fair amount of resentment by some Jamaicans who feel that the money from tourism goes primarily to foreign investors.

Id go with a cold Red Stripe with the meal and then 3 fingers of Appleton XII myself. Light up a nice Dominican cigar and watch the sun set over the Caribbean.
Thats living, my friend.

A ride on horseback through the coffee plantations in the Blue Mountains is not a bad way to spend a day. Best coffee on Earth.
The best thing that could happen to Jamaica would be a return to British rule. Its a beautiful country with wonderful, friendly people. Its a shame they seem unable to govern themselves properly.

We always now just stay in the SAFE ZONE at the Pier.....will NOT go into the population anymore.

Or Chicago for that matter. The only difference is the weather.
