Trump FISA Abuse Tweet 1-19-18
@realDonaldTrump ^ | President Donald J. Trump

Posted on 01/19/2018 2:44:56 PM PST by CincyRichieRich

Just signed 702 Bill to reauthorize foreign intelligence collection. This is NOT the same FISA law that was so wrongly abused during the election. I will always do the right thing for our country and put the safety of the American people first!

Gotta call BS on POTUS in this instance. If he signed the 702 extension, then he's complicit in any future FISA-related 4th amendment violations.

The President has the authority to declassify anything he wants to..

So, RELEASE THE MEMO already, President Trump!

I thought this was true. However, President Trump may not be in possession of this memo. Thus, it may require a vote of the House to physically release it to him.

I'm just guessing, here. Otherwise, I cannot imagine why President Trump would have not already released it. One of the congressional sponsors of "release the memo" was on talk radio this morning. If it had been simple, I believe he would have suggested a short cut.

Actually, the radio host suggested giving the memo to Feinstein and then making sure she had the flu. :) Apparently, that is the recipe for the unlawful release of information held by Congress.

So Schumer was invited to the WH. And everyone knows the most dangerous place in DC is between CS and a TV camera...

Yet, no comment.

Q posts:

Thank you for visiting the WH.

I think someone had a lousy afternoon.

The FISA bill has apparently been modified by a great extent, specifically on the sections that were likely abused by the Obama administration, adding extensive Congressional oversight over the use of FISA inquiries. This whole memo stuff was obviously timed to come out after congress re-upped the bill in order to avoid a public backlash and the loss of FISA entirely.

Even if the President can declassify, it’s better for Trump if the Republicans vote democratically to release it.

The Dems are already saying the memo is a conspiracy theory and a fabrication. The votes in Congress will give it more power.

Don’t worry, it will be released. They are just waiting for the perfect moment whichever that is. Trump has been planning this for a year now.

Really? FISA law has changed? The only thing I know of is that the executive was taking steps changing unmasking procedures.

"The FISA bill has apparently been modified..."

Perhaps. But you'll forgive me if I remain skeptical.

"This whole memo stuff was obviously timed to come out after congress re-upped the bill in order to avoid a public backlash and the loss of FISA entirely. "

Now that sounds like the swamp I've come to know and loathe.

Yup, now I haven’t read the amendments myself, just going off what I’ve seen reported. But the bottom line is that the official posiion of Nunes and company is that they’ve fixed the problems:

Not his sole call - there's a procedure involved. Congress has to authorize the release, it goes to the Executive branch for review and if all is hunky dory THEN it gets released.

I think that this National Security capability (702) had to be secured, before they blow the lid on abuse, to prrotect it from potentially being lost in an enraged public backlash (like the Church Committee stripped the CIA of much human spying capability after Watergate). Now the coast is clear to bring the storm.
