Republican leaders offer one-month spending bill
Washington Post ^ | By Erica Werner and Mike DeBonis January 17

House Republican leaders presented their rank and file with a one-month spending bill Tuesday aimed at keeping the government open ahead of a Friday night deadline, as hopes for a deal on young undocumented immigrants faded.

The bill would extend existing spending levels through Feb. 16 and include an extension of a popular children’s health insurance program — aimed at winning Democratic votes — and a new sweetener for conservatives and Democrats alike in delaying several taxes included in the Affordable Care Act. Few lawmakers were enthusiastic about the legislation, but several described it as a necessary evil to avoid the first government shutdown since 2013.

No. Shut it down. America will survive, President Trump will survive. The rest of Congress can pound sand. Pass a budget, your only job or quit and retire to private life.

Yeah....just kill it.

Present a reduced and balanced budget, and let the RATs vote against it.

Well, who couldn’t see this coming? I figured the can would be kicked down the road as the clock ticked to zero.

Shut down wont be all that bad but would be nice to see the Rs ‘overcome’ it.

The only reason being that the Ds have already said they are going to do it — BEST thing is to not ‘let’ them, just some more egg on their face and give PDT another in the win column or at least the ‘in your face’ column.

Sneaky Democrats are asking for amnesty, not just for these 800,000 that are covered by #DACA, but also 2 million illegal aliens. That’s why it truly is Dem’s fault if the government does shut down.

Democrats will reject it saying it’s not good enough, then the Republicans will turn around slowly, kicking rocks as they walk away. Why can’t the Republicans fight for keeps the way the democrats do?

Folks...can you imagine President Trump on TV stating that non essential functions within the EPA, the IRS, the DOE and a dozen other overreaching, extra constitutional entities will be shut down to keep critical functions available? He would do it. This is why we hired him....

Reagan had eight (8) shutdowns. Trump is behind schedule.

IIRC, the official who is tasked with determining what is to be shut down down is the OMB Director -- who is Mick Mulvaney.

I worry not one bit that there will be spiteful closings of war memorials and national monuments like there was under Obama.

The government shut down on Monday, and I didn't miss it at all.

Shut it down. If I didn't think that a smaller government was a better government, I wouldn't have voted to hire Trump in the first place.

Is this winning? Effin clowns could not pass a budget if someone wrote and handed it to them. Fire them

Or, they may have decided to just extend until DACA expires and gives Trump more leverage....the idiot “judge” decision won’t hold up so it will expire.
