Two-and-a-half percent of American men ages 15-44 who identify as straight have had same-sex relations. That's according to a December study published in the journal Sociological Perspectives by Tony Silva and Rachel Bridges Whaley, which examined “the relationship between straight identification and nonsexual social factors among men who are attracted to men."
Colloquially, it's called “bud sex.”

HELP! I’m getting so confused about sexuality. I’m being told that a post-op tranny who is attracted to his/her new sex is gay, but if he/she was attracted to this sex pre-op, then he/she was straight. How does this jive with being gay isn’t a choice? And now straight dudes banging other dudes are considered not gay? I’m really not sure if my wife and I are heterosexual anymore according to all this new information.

Hate to say it, (and I know this is going to be hammer time) but the way the women are acting with all this radical empowerment crap, pussy hat wearing and male emasculation bullshiite they probably think getting a handy from their best bud is probably a better deal.
Some small % of men are just always horny and while not particularly identifying as “gay” or seeking a male-male relationship or partner at all, will seek “no strings” “satisfaction” where they can find it. You could correctly call it one of the forms of sex-addiction.
As far as the statistics, I think the authors are actually just speculating without any scientific basis.
