Virginia seceded from the Union, the U.S. Constitution was hardly applicable to them at that point.

“Virginia seceded from the Union, the U.S. Constitution was hardly applicable to them at that point.”

Not according to the Yankees. The Yankees screeched that Virginia (and the other seceding states) had no constitutional right to secede, and that therefore it was legally still part of the Union, and had not seceded but was, instead, in rebellion. So, in typical fashion, they were hypocrites by saying on the one hand that Virginia was still in the Union, and thus subject to the Constitution; and on the other hand that it was out of the Union and thus not subject to and bound by the Constitution.

Presidential data for the proposed New California going back to 1988. Since the Obama era, New California still leans pretty clearly Democratic in Presidential races.

Not Californian so my say dont mean nuthin. If I had a vote, Id prefer the previous idea of just chopping off the Northern third. This looks like baking too many problems into the new cake.

From previous threads on the subject I would believe there are quite few supporters around here. Should you ever start a ping list on it or something closely related make sure to add me.

I have gathered that there are a few of us who are advocates.

I guess there are no influential real-world advocates, since anyone in favor of doing anything with radioactivity is branded by the left as an undesirable worthy of brainwashing/reprogramming/indoctrination.

I think things are changing. Thorium, by far, is the greenest source of power on the map. We have all the fuel we need from Colorado, enough to export if we wanted to.

It can be handled with no shielding.

It’s time. In fact, I’m a little shocked we haven’t gone into countries who wanted nuke power and just set it up for them, patted them on the head, and said, “If we catch you using U235 to create P239, we are going to bomb you, mmkay?”

I am an ex-Nuclear Med Tech, so I understand fully the fear and phobia of radioactivity.

Well, we will likely be forced into using it when other things happen that leave us few choices. It would be nice to think ahead, but...no.

Only because Virginia seceded from the union was West Virginia able to be created.

California keeps refusing to enforce federal laws and threatening to secede. Hopefully lawmakers can use these actions and threats to create “New California”, although I would prefer that “Jefferson” also be created out of the counties of Southern Oregon and Northern California, that have long sought independence from Oregon and California.

Here’s a little piece of history concerning California’s dance with secession from an article by D.J. Welder in July 2017:

“The California legislature (described as “intensely pro-slavery”[ii]) passed the Pico Act in 1859, calling on Congress to divide the state. It was signed by Governor John B. Weller, overwhelmingly approved by voters in Southern California,[iii] and sent to Washington.”

Can Congress revisit the Pico Act of 1859, view it along with current statements and pronouncements concerning secession, and use this to create New California and Jefferson?

Would the Dems go into panic mode?

Already happened once:

“The California legislature (described as “intensely pro-slavery”[ii]) passed the Pico Act in 1859, calling on Congress to divide the state. It was signed by Governor John B. Weller, overwhelmingly approved by voters in Southern California,[iii] and sent to Washington.”

“Since the People’s Republic of California is now surrounded by New California, I think some tolls and duties ought to be imposed.”

Has the Pico Act ever been repealed? If not, this could get interesting.

Only possible because Virginia had seceded, and was viewed as being in open rebellion.

Don't know if the Pico Act was ever acted on by Congress. It would be interesting to see. The question could be raised by someone in Congress. If seriously considered, the Dems would probably go into panic mode, especially Pelosi.

Congress obviously didn’t act on it. The larger question is whether the California legislature and governor ever repealed it. If it’s still on the books, this could become a lot of fun very quickly.

I admit to being weak on this part of history (for a history buff, that is embarrassing to admit!) but this is good information...thank you for pinging me.

Honestly, I would rather not have them have to go down this road, but...California seems completely broken.
