Maybe the girl was an unprofessional twit and was showing that in the meeting. Seems like she wasn’t taking notes or anything.
And maybe unprofessional was a congressfool sending a 21 girl to evaluate an Infantry unit and expecting the general to kiss her ass.
I for one am glad the little snowflake got melted. She cost him a promotion, but his men respect him. And no matter what, deep inside, she knows she was seen as not worthy of respect.

I live in Missouri. I drove 1800 miles home from MCRD San Diego with my two sons that just graduated from basic training. After listening to hours upon hours of stories I am not too concerned with much of this now that sanity has arived back into the White House. You can’t stop some things.

I consider “sweetheart” to be a term of endearment and in no way offensive. I think it’s a sweet thing to say. Guess I’m old fashioned.
How old was he? Now that I’m almost 70 I get away with stuff like that all the time. Girls walk into my office and I say, “What can I do for you, beautiful?” or “How are you today, luv?” They usually say, “Thanks I needed that today.”

I would guess he was around 55 at the time. He was born and raised in Alabama and that was just the way he talked. He was actually really smart as well as clever. May have even been a genius.
