Agreed. Mueller should also agree that “I don’t recollect.” is a totally legitimate response.
Trump should not meet woth him. This is a setup for a process crime. Require all questions to be in writing, answered in writing.
And, of course, that Mueller write a report exonerating Trump before the interview.
It’s a nothing-burger.
What the American People ought to demand to know right now is: When Mueller met with Comey the day before Comey testified, did he, or did he not give Comey immunity.
Trump should tell Mueller to read up on the separation of powers and get back to him ... in, say, seven years or so.
Yes it’s a trap, the question is a trap for who?
Trump is NOT on trial.
There is no requirement for anyone to speak, to them if under investigation. 5th amendment can keep you from talking to them but it will look terrible.
But if he talks they will set a perjury trap.
“Here’s how the interview should go: “Special Counsel Mueller: You’re fired!””
I wouldn’t go that far. The conclusion of the interview should be something like, “ok, you interviewed the entire world and found nothing. Do you still want this charade to go on or are we now done with this?” I would even go so far as to ask Mueller who he would recommend for special counsel into the Uranium 1 deal.
Because that worked so well for Bill Clinton.
He should get the same terms for this “interview” as Hillary did for hers with the FBI:
1. Full exoneration in advance of any meeting or interview;
2. Not under oath and immune from any prosecution for faulty memory, “I don’t recall”, etc.
3. 2 hour time-limit.
4. All questions submitted in advance.
5. Multiple of own lawyers in attendance and able to answer or intervene at any point, for any reason.
That should about cover it.
Submit ALL questions in writing.
The President’s attorneys should also be able to interview Mr Mueller to see if Comey granted Mueller immunity the day before Comey was discharged from duty.
I think the Pres should agree but only if the interview is carried live on all CSPAN channels.
The Left media howls all the time.
OTOH, if he assents, it will be the media’s shiny object on which to focus attention away from the pending congressionally appointed special counsels to investigate a dozen or so rats.
Don’t forget that Mueller needs to clear President Trump of any wrong-doing before he’s even interviewed, just like Comey cleared Hillary before she was interviewed by the FBI.
