BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AP) — Dozens of Palestinians in Bethlehem are protesting the arrival of the Greek Orthodox patriarch of the Holy Land to celebrate Orthodox Christmas.

The protesters scuffled with Palestinian police and church supporters Saturday as Theophilos III made his way toward the Church of the Nativity, revered as Jesus’ birthplace. Palestinians have been demanding his resignation for allegedly selling church land to Israelis in sweetheart deals. …

Of course, fake news AP puts the dateline as “Bethlehem, West Bank” instead of “Bethlehem, Israel”. And why is it the business of the “Palestinians” what the church does with its own land?

The article confuses the Julian and Gregorian calendars. Pope Gregory was obviously later than Julius Caesar.

No, Bethlehem is in Israel. The “West Bank” is an invention of leftists.

I understand what you are saying and totally agree with you that areas like the "West Bank" and the "Gaza Strip" in all rights should be part of Israel and we like to think of them as still Israel, however Israel was coerced into ceding in so called peace treaties, these areas to control of the Arabs who call themselves the Palestinians. The terrible reality is that there ARE border checkpoints into and out them.

Well, that’s correct from an historical standpoint.

As far as the name “West Bank”, that is still a concoction and a misnomer for Judea-Samaria. Wikipedia is these days saying Bethlehem is “a Palestinian city” in “the central West Bank, Palestine”, lending credence to the lie (they locked their article on the city from editing, to boot). After all, the Orthodox Church could not sell its property to Israel if it were not in Israel.

Yes it does present quite a dilemma, doesn’t it. Seems like the peace treaties made Israel cede “control” to an entity that is not a fully recognized country. There is no country of Palestine.

The reality is that the Palestinians have their own land, called Jordan.

I do accept the account of the giving up of the land areas.

If you look at Bethlehem from a helicopter, to all appearances it is now a suburb of Jerusalem, right next to Giloh. Yet the central police station of Bethlehem for the PA is in Gush Etzion, right next to the Jooo! police station. The idea of a separate Palestinian state that includes Bethlehem is absurd. And the security wall around Rachel’s Tomb completely blocks out the beautifully understated Moor-ish dome by which Rachel’s Tomb is universally recognized all over the world. This obscene charade should end now, or at least while there are still Christians in Bethlehem, where Jesus was born, and Jews should be encourage to re-”occupy” it, too, since it is also the city in which David was born.

https://azure.org.il/include/print.php?id=258: “...the bitter experience of non-Muslim communities in Arab countries—like the fate of Arab Christians, the Muslims’ supposed partners in Arab nationalism. What return should Israelis expect for abandoning their national sovereignty, when Coptic Christian churches in Egypt are burned, and Coptic priests and laymen physically assaulted? The Copts are an integral part of the Egyptian people, yet many of them suffer from persecution at the hands of radical Muslims, and many have fled Egypt. A similar fate has befallen Palestinian Christians, who have lived in perpetual fear of the Palestinian security forces and the armed groups in the areas under their control. Christians have emigrated in large numbers, and the relative proportion of Christians within the Palestinian Authority has steadily declined since its establishment in 1994. At least ten thousand Christian Arabs have fled, including some three thousand since the outbreak of hostilities in September 2000.”
