Pakistans prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has declared himself mystified by US threats to cut off funding, saying that US financial assistance was very, very insignificant and that Pakistan was on the forefront of the war on terror.
In an interview with the Guardian, Abbasi said that reports that the US was considering cuts of up to $2bn in security assistance were bewildering because the total aid Pakistan civilian and military actually received was a tiny fraction of that amount.
I am not sure what US aid has been talked here, Abbasi said in his office in Islamabad. The aid in the last five years at least has been less than $10m a year. It is a very, very insignificant amount. So when I read in the paper that aid at the level of $250m or 500 or 900 has been cut, we at least are not aware of that aid.
Donald Trump used his first tweet of 2018 to threaten to withhold aid to Pakistan because of what he called its lies and deceit over terrorism, claiming: They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. The president has that the US had foolishly given Pakistan $33bn over the past 15 years.
According to the US Agency for International Development, the US gave $778m to Pakistan in assistance in 2016, of which 35% was military and the rest economic.

Said the less significant fool.
The size of their zib is insignificant...
What she said...
Yes, they won’t have any problem or complaint, then.
(We know he’s actually whistling past the graveyard).
Anybody check with the Clinton Foundation for the rest of it?
I wonder how much $ ever made it to foreign countries. That’s about $700 million dollars’ difference from what was stated as being given to Pakistan!
Maybe Mueller should investigate this. We used to drop off cardboard boxes of millions to Karzai on a regular basis in Afghanistan. (And as a back check, check the Clinton Foundation.)
By forefront on the war on terror, does he mean providing terrorists safe housing compounds and military intelligence briefings? You know, to help us?
Good, thank you. Cut it off!
Thank you, Pahkeestahn. We fart in your general direction.
Since he’s said his country doesn’t need it, cutting it off will be no problem.
Of course, the only reason he says that is, he already has his nest egg, courtesy of the US Taxpayer, safely stashed somewhere in Switzerland, UAE, the Caymans, or any other place on the planet that allows the rich to stash their money away from prying eyes..
Wonderful news ...
Actually if their income from terrorist-run drug enterprises was cut off, they’d be really hurting, eh?
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is a liar. U.S. money is a big deal to his country. In 2010 Pakistan received $2.64 Billion in military and economic aid from the U.S. When you translate that money to the Pakistan economy, that is big money. One million U.S. dollars is equal to 110,658,733.22 Pakistani Rupees.
It’s not the US government money. It’s our money. We elected a President who knows this.
Obama gave away our ten trillion dollars. He sure didn’t spend it here. We no longer sponsor terrorist.
MAGA President Donald Trump
Good, they don’t need it then. Cut it off.
It’s my damn money and I don’t want it given to these pig-faced Moslems under any circumstances. Period!!
This is a euphemism that the 20 trillion US dollars
given to Iran by Obama-the-cryptoMoslem Indonesian
went to Pakeeestan for nukes.
ie. THEY ALREADY HAVE THE MONEY.
Yet Pakistans prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says: US aid in the last five years has been less than $10m a year. So when I read that aid at the level of $250m or 500 or 900 has been cut, we at least are not aware of that aid.
That's a very interesting statement from the PM. Several things must be happening to our tax dollars to one of the most corrupt countries on the globe:
<><> somebody is getting filthy rich on our tax dollars disguised as foreign aid.
<><> official Pakistan is skimming hundreds of million off the top before it gets to the govt coffers;
<><> someone in the US govt could also be getting a bundle before the money leaves the US Treasury.
NY POST REPORT Alfonso Portillo---ex-president of Central America's Guatemala--- faced charges in New York that he used US banks to launder millions looted from his impoverished nation. Alfonso Portillo took office in 2000 pledging to (ahem) redistribute Guatemalas wealth.
Portillo, 61, allegedly ran scams to drain the impoverished country's coffers. The feds say Portillo embezzled about $2.5M provided by the Taiwanese embassy....$1.5 million was earmarked for Libraries for Peace....books for school kids.
Portillo colluded w/ corrupt C/A insiders---he personally endorsed three $500,000 checks issued against an account at the Intl Bank of China in Manhattan, then deposited the cash in the Miami bank account of a Guatemalan bank controlled by a close associate and political supporter.
The embezzled foreign aid money was funneled to bank accounts in Paris in the names of Portillos ex-wife and daughter.
<><> Portillo swindled nearly $4M defense funds ...
<><> plundered the national bank run by his alleged co-conspirator...
<><> through overdrafts financed by public reserves the pilfered foreign aid money paid for expensive watches and cars, for Portillo and his associates. (NY POST excerpt 5/28/13)
