That’s ONE thing Dr. Phil gets right. Young people ALWAYS find a way to blame themselves if there’s ANY way they can.
I am sorry about your friend and that is actually pretty crushing at that age to feel left behind.
But you didn’t do anything.
And even if I told the mother, what was she going to do? Lock him in his room?
It’s just life. And no one ever said it was fair :(

Saddest is little kids. Parents get divorced, or worse, one dies. They ALWAYS blame themselves. They will always think something they did wrong caused it. Heartbreaking, really.
And if you had told his mother, chances are she wouldn’t have believed it, or been able to stop him. She was probably bereaved and messed up herself.
