I would never assume that; many illegals (OR LEGAL IMMIGRANTS) can work under the table while collecting “freebies” - then send the work income home while we pay all their bills here.

In the event they are taxpayers, that doesn’t mean they didn’t take American jobs anyway. Mexico is now our largest welfare client...

After 9/11 I thought it became difficult to move money around like this; I guess the Patriot Act only applied to law-abiding Americans.

I see no problem with taxing individual to individual remittances to any country.

I would demand to know the source of those funds. Is that source a citizen or resident alien? Is the source wages, and not welfare.

If they are illegal aliens then the money should be seized, and used to locate the sender and deport them.

You're headed into the weeds on this...The article was discussing remittances to Mexico and other countries from the US, not the other way around.

Yes we should most definitely tax remittances to Mexico, or anywhere else if the source of those funds is NOT an American citizen and the receiver is a citizen of the destination. Further, if the source is not a US citizen, verifiable proof must be submitted that those funds were NOT the result of government transfer payments and that the requisite income taxes were paid on the source of those funds. If they are the result of government transfer payments or enabled by those payments(i.e. working under the table) while collecting, those monies should be seized and returned to the treasury.

I’m not headed in the weeds most expats have money sent overseas from the usa to where they are living-retirement, social security etc..millions of American citizens have ties to other countries like Mexico, and could easily be straw men for transfers—the logistics of determining where funds came from and are going will be nightmarish with another govt agency to oversee it.. what about legal resident aliens?

this will be big brother at it’s worst. better to crack down on enforcement of immigration and wage/income tax laws imo. end anchor babies now. e verify now.

Maybe there's an amount limit that passes under the Patriot Act radar. In Wal-Mart every Friday evening is a line of Mexican looking people waiting to transfer money. I would guess they transfer $200-300 each.

Maybe, but you try to open a bank account and look at the documentation the bank will require. How do the illegals do that?

Here in NJ you have to jump through hoops to get and renew a drivers license, producing all kinds of government documents (birth certificate, SS card, marriage license, etc.); how do the illegals do that?

You know almost all of it is from invading parasites. EVERY penny should be denied as a transfer unless the sender is legal and then it should be taxed 50%. Illegal “earnings”are illegal. No different than criminals “laundering” crime $$.

Freepers who love taxes always strike me as odd. I guess people in general love taxes they never expect to have to pay themselves.

Your mindset in part drives the value of cryptocurrencies up, because people can transfer money in a decentralized manner, without permission of the government, or even its knowledge. Border guards also can't shake you down for it the way they could with cash or gold.
