Costco in New Orleans is actually on the edge of one of THE most crime ridden neighborhoods near Uptown universities. The company got tons of tax concessions and other incentives to build there. So it was more like social welfare than corporate sense. Sams is on the outskirts of the city, in the suburbs-Kenner and Metairie. Location really doesn’t matter when it comes to the demographics of the N.O. area. It is primarily poor, black and very mobile criminal types. They fill up the Lexus with friends and go ‘shopping’, trashing the stores, returning half eaten food for refunds(which they get-no questions dared) and filling up flats with EBT merchandise. It’s a losing battle. The theft/shoplifting is growing and the enlightened management from more civilized cities think things like SELF checkout will help.Trusting thieves always works, right? For the life of me I don’t know why ANYONE bothers to pay-just walk out with what you want. What if an entire store full of people did that? They won’t confront/chase thieves now, how could they stop hundreds at a time? Then there is the added ‘atmosphere’ of trash people letting their kids actually defecate in the middle of aisles or dragging them around telling them to ‘shut the F... up! When the demographics are against you all you can do is shop online and hope those who created the ‘food deserts’ enjoy them.
Of course, if the mediots actually reported that Black youths were causing the vast majority of these mall riot problems, the Rev-uh-runds Al Sharptoon and Je$$e Jack$on would be on them like — uh — white on rice.
Im old enough to remember when Orange Julius would add a raw egg to your drink. That practice ended because of the risk of eating raw egg. But Id rather eat a millionaire raw eggs than go to a mall infested with ferals. Which is the riskier practice?
What is a yute?
Two years ago, niteowl77 wanted to go to a specialty store that had supposedly opened up adjacent to a mall where we used to go back in the 1980s. This particular mall was usually packed back in those days, partly because it had a good number of businesses that were either regional or local and were managed by people who knew their stuff; while not "upscale," the mall had some pretensions to same. We moved from the area some years ago, so we had not been there in probably fifteen years.
The store n77 was looking for wasn't there, so we decided to go to the mall since we had already driven over that far. We were surprised to find that it now has shops similar to what you have described, and much of the mall clearly caters to what I will euphemize as "a certain demographic." We figured out pretty quickly that even with the two good anchor stores that remained, this mall was doomed.
A leisurely tour of the town showed that a fair number of the old mall tenants are now in free-standing buildings or strip malls.
Mr. niteowl77
Commerce rejection has NOTHING to do with skin color and everything to do with rejection of the underclass criminal culture that has taken over much of the black community.
For COSTCO and Sam's to pretend otherwise might make their liberal elite executives feel good about themselves but the unreality presented to the honest people in the black community (people who are trying to pull their communities away from the criminals) is a slap in the face.

A saner approach would be to offer memberships - and if anyone is caught stealing they lose their membership and are given a prorated refund of what they paid. In time this incentive allows the 'winners' to be the honest black citizens and losers to be the criminals. It's a naturally health incentive patterns that in the long run restores sanity to the black community. (Yes, before the great society 'incentives from hell' the black community had stores and commerce)
Dude...this is the nuclear version . It takes nowhere near that much to make people of pallor feel uncomfortable and get scarce,
