Prior to the United Nations General Assembly vote to declare President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel “null and void,” the representatives of some of the world’s most egregious violators of human rights stood behind the podium, one after the other, to condemn the U.S. and the Jewish state.
CNN’s Jake Tapper pointed out after the vote, citing the independent monitor U.N. Watch, that of 97 resolutions issued by the U.N. General Assembly between 2010 and 2015, 83 were condemnations of Israel.
“You have to ask, is Israel truly deserving of 86 percent of the world’s condemnation? Or possibly, is something else afoot at the United Nations?”
Citing nations that condemned the U.S. before the U.N. vote Thursday, Tapper pointed to “the genocide of the Rohingya people in Myanmar, the lack of basic human rights in North Korea, the children starving in the streets of Venezuela, the citizens of Syria targeted for murder by their own leader using the most grotesque and painful of weapons.”
“The U.S. imperils global peace, says the representative of Venezuela — a country in a humanitarian disaster,” Tapper said. “With violence in the streets, an economy in complete collapse, citizens malnourished, dying children being turned away from hospitals, starving families joining street gangs to scrounge for food. On what moral platform does the government of Venezuela stand today?”
Tapper said “listening to these countries, including North Korea, and Myanmar, and Turkey, and China, lecturing the United States in any way about human rights and peace might seem a bit much.”

This is probably one of those most ridiculous votes the U.N. has EVER taken! What gives any of these nations the right to dictate to an American president what he can and cannot say about Israel and her de facto capital? The seat of Israel’s government is in Jerusalem even though Tel Aviv is the official one - and that because of the political machinations of these same hypocritical countries. Trump voiced what many Americans already accept and a country can place her embassy anywhere another country permits it to. Trump’s statement doesn’t automatically FORCE Jerusalem to be the capital - he stated his view - nor does it compel any other country to do the same. This is all a political farce and another excuse to bash Israel and Trump. Any sane thinking person realizes that the Arabs and Palestinians need no excuse for their anti-Israel diatribes and there will NEVER be a peace treaty because they do not want one - Lord knows every angle has been tried to get them there. I for one am tired of billions of our tax dollars being sent to these countries who stab us in the back at every opportunity. We SHOULD draw back our support of them. Maybe then we get the respect we deserve instead of their scorn.

Wrong. That resolution has been superseded on the ground by virtue of 3 wars. All won by Israel. In fact, if the UN hadn’t stopped Israel each time, Israel would probably include all or huge chunks of Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. As it is, the modern nation of Israel includes Gaza, Judea, Samaria and Golan. And oh, only Jews get to vote.

Trump shouldn’t waste ANY TIME letting those who oppose the U.S. position know there are no more deep pockets, cut all funding and kick the bastards out of the U.S. Let them do their “work” in the countries that actually support them, of which there are few. My guess they will be on their knees in less time it took to write my comment.

I disagree with all those calling for a cut off of funds to the UN. As long as we maintain membership, which we should, we should pay our fair share. Whether that's based on the number of member state, or population of said states, I don't care. And UN scofflaws, I guess they avoid arrest over multiple parking tickets. But their cars don't have diplomatic immunity, impound them as you would for a US citizen.

Instead of playing with the whole U.N. on money issues, cut foreign aid down to some. And focus on one western European country at a time with a punishment-reward plan in trade and other issues. That’s what some of the western European countries have been doing to us behind our backs in both business and international diplomacy between governments—especially the U.K. They recruit government and business leaders of other nations to eventually have them gang up on us. It’s an old tactic of empires.
