Sinclair Broadcast Group is fined $13 million by FCC for failing to identify sponsored programming

The Federal Communications Commission has leveled a $13.4-million fine against Sinclair Broadcast Group for failing to identify sponsored content that aired on its TV stations.

The fine announced Thursday is the largest ever proposed by the commission for such a violation and comes at a delicate time for the Baltimore-based company, which is seeking Justice Department and FCC approvals for its proposed $3.9-billion acquisition of Tribune Media.

The FCC said Sinclair created 60- and 90-second spots that promoted the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah and aired them on its local newscasts, or as free-standing half-hour programs.

But the company did not identify the spots as sponsored content paid for by the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

It’s about time someone went after that evil Huntsman Cancer foundation. Now the FCC can put there money where it really matters, the clintoon & Obama foundations.
Surely the FCC wouldn’t be involved in targeting conservatives, would they?

A bit unrelated, but I recall reading in Randy West’s book about game show announcer Johnny Olson “A Voice in Time” the interesting stories about the early development of both broadcasting and the FCC. One story concerned a priest who simply wrote to the FCC asking for a radio broadcast licence and he was simply granted one right then and there, lol.

I don’t have any problem with ensuring that any TV broadcast that pretends to look as a factual presentation carry full disclosure if it is paid for. That’s standard in my line of work as a financial advisor. The fine isn’t against the Foundation, it’s against the broadcaster.

And instead of allowing that ridiculously small print at the bottom of the screen make it much easier to read.

More information about who is funding a point of view is important in exposing the Left’s agenda. We know they will highlight anything our side funds!

When will CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, NPR, PBS, ABC, NBC, ABC and ESPN be fined for broadcasting DNC/Soros-sponsored political propaganda as “news?”

This is about the only conservative media company. Hope they can handle the fine.
