My profession has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not a particular treatment is effective in treating specific health issues.
I do not trust the FDA any more than many other government agencies. From the information put out, I do not see any real criteria for what the limits of their regulation would be, nor any exclusions.
And based on past efforts, this caution is reasonable.
In past, some advocates have said that non-culinary spice herbs should be regulated, required to have standardized active ingredients, and sold only in measured doses, aka pill form.
Others have said that vitamins should be available by prescription only.
Still others would require that all OTC supplements undergo the rigorous and exorbitantly expensive approval process, which almost none would be willing to pay for, it taking decades just to recover the expense.
Nonsense like this, and many other past abuses, are why this policy should not be respected until it is put into print. Having worked as a bureaucrat, I do not trust other bureaucrats who claim to be invested only in the public good.
My mother was a great believer in alternative medicine, blew thousands of dollars on them, then she took Garlique instead of her prescribed blood thinner.
She’s dead now.
I kinda think purveyors of alternative medicinals should have to meet the same requirements as purveyors of modern mainstream medicine.

Really. I thought perhaps your judgement might be a little off since you are maybe not as qualified as you think you are to assess treatment efficacy. You must be the guy sitting on the armchair, the general who should be running the war. I just asked a simple question, what have you to hide?

I ruptured a disc in my lower back many years ago when struggling with a coupler on a tractor disc, took a few ibuprofen for a time and slept on the floor for a week or so. It eventually cleared up but the ibuprofen had little effect and it certainly wasn’t curative. i hope your bursitis gets better but aging is not a friendly foe.

Lemme get this straight. You ruptured a disc in your back and sleeping on the floor and taking ibuprofen it “cleared up” in a week or so? You either
1. didn’t have a ruptured disc.
2. found a miracle cure for ruptured discs.
I think you meant to say you had a herniated disc. Those can heal.
A ruptured disc can heal like a popped balloon can re-inflate.
I’m relaying what was later revealed with a radiograph. The rupture itself was quite audible and memorable. An event that I haven’t forgotten. Many people, especially farmers and other manual laborers rupture discs and never opt for surgery. Let’s keep in mind that back surgeons are a relatively new type of surgeon.
Pregnant women? Who is putting stuff into pregnant women against their will? And who are you to tell other people how they should treat their children? I suppose you have no problem with a pediatrician dosing children with 30+ vaccines before they're a year old with who knows what kind of ingredients included, when their immature immune systems are not even able to produce IgG antibodies yet.
How about you mind your own family and let others do the same?

Seventy years ago, tobacco smoking was seen as relatively harmless. Twenty years ago, low fat, high carbohydrate diets were treated as gospel truth. The shifting sands of mainstream medical dogma do not make alternative medicine true. However, state and Federally government power should be restrained for both mainstream and alternative medicine. If people can be trusted to choose what bread, beer, pants, or appliances they may buy, they should be trusted to make crucial choices in the medical field.
There is corruption in the legal system, as there is corruption in the medical system. The former is a function of government; the latter, while largely privately owned, is heavily regulated and controlled by government. Major players, like pharmaceutical companies, have great influence over the bureaucratic and legislative process. As the numerous Clinton scandals, not to mention countless politicians from time immemorial, money talks, indeed screams. The former is akin to socialism, the latter is crony capitalism. Trust in doctors, as with most scientists, has always been regarded far above trust in lawyers. The list of the misdeeds in the legal profession is too long to review in a single comment; judges taking bribes, sending innocent people to prison, extorting a piece of every business, making a 100,000 regulations-laws-rules for their own benefit, to the complete fabrication of legal attacks on innocent people, to a single contemptible lawyer in a blackrobe throwing out millions of votes for political gain. I’ve sat across the courtroom and watched too many times to stomach watching these shysters put together a string of legal lies to make me wretch for a week. They shysters run every branch of government and are responsible for putting us in this mess called the DC empire. No one can escape their tentacles, no one.
