I have heard it alleged that Mayor Richard J. Daley chose the route for the Dan Ryan Expressway so it would provide a barrier between black and white southside Chicago neighborhoods. It’s a good thing it’s a lot easier to cut down some trees than it is to take down a highway.

When I was in the Marine Corps in 1967 & 68, I would go camping up on Tahquitz Creek in those mountains and I must say that is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. Anything that ruined my view of those mountains would upset me as well.
