Sudan's President asks Putin for 'protection' from 'aggressive' US

"We are thankful to Russia for its position on the international arena, including Russia's position in the protection of Sudan. We are in need of protection from the aggressive acts of the United States."

The Sudanese leader praised his earlier meeting with Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.

"We are currently launching a programme to modernise our armed forces and we agreed with the defence minister that Russia will contribute to this," Bashir said.

Putin said that Russia was keen to intensify economic ties including in agriculture and energy.

"There are prospects not only in the hydrocarbon sphere but also in energy," Putin said. "There are many prospects of cooperation."

The visit came a month after the United States lifted a trade embargo it imposed on the impoverished African state in 1997 over Khartoum's alleged backing of Islamist militant groups.

US President Donald Trump also removed Sudan from a list of countries facing a US travel ban.

Sudan's deadly conflict in Darfur broke out in 2003 when ethnic minority groups took up arms against Bashir's Arab-dominated government, which launched a brutal counter-insurgency.

Bashir is wanted by the ICC for genocide and war crimes related to the conflict, charges he denies.

I believe that Iran, Libya, Turkey and probably Sudan are involved in the Ezekiel 38 war to destroy Israel. I also agree with those that think Russia is going to be involved.

So, Russia tied into Iran, Turkey and now Sudan doesn’t surprise me.

Israel sent fighter jets to bomb trucks of weapons in Sudan a few years back.

Sudan, Iran, Cuba, Venezuala, and North Korea are all in Putin's corner

Do you blame them? How many countries leaders has the US overthrown in regime change initiatives? Why are we still in Syria now that ISIS has been defeated? We had no business being there, except for helping to defeat ISIS, created by bad Obama/hillary foreign policy.

> How many countries leaders has the US overthrown in regime change initiatives? <

That’s a really good point. And it all was made worse by George W. Bush’s stupid “Axis of Evil” speech. In that speech Bush essentially said: If we don’t like you, we are going to get rid of you. The next thing you know, Saddam is dangling at the end of a rope.

So yeah, if I were a third-world leader, I’d be a bit leery of US “friendship”.

Zbigniew Brzezinski was the monster in the Carter administration who armed and financed the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan to fight against the Soviets. When the Soviets were in Afghanistan, women were educated, teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc. Well, after the Mujahedeen were armed with sophisticated weapons, the Soviets left... The result - the USA got 911, and women now can walk 3 paces behind the donkey, the Mujahedeen evolved into the Taliban, who evolved into Al-Qaeda, who evolved into ISIS/ISIL/Daesh.

Thanks to Obama and Hillary turning Libya into an even bigger mess, I expect we’ll be hearing more about Libya in the near future. And it won’t surprise me if the real Russia is found in the mix.

Not the fake “Russia” Seth Rich. /dead thanks to the Hillary DNC operatives

Yes. This is how Ron Paul (who I admire dearly) and Putin (who I do not admire dearly) would say.

We have the moral high ground geopolitically now. Trump is doing a good job.

Putin has been driven by his desire to avenge the fall of the Soviet Union (and the Russian Empire.)

He wants to diminish even the power of values that make America great and enjoys capitalizing on the weaknesses Western civilization. He has no concern for some higher justice or rule of law.

Good post there. And the lesson is that not every damn place in the world is a “vital security interest” for the United States.

And, exactly what good is NATO anyway?

They are helping facilitate the invasion of Europe with the UN.

Seems we weren’t in Syria to defeat isis at all but rather per the genius mc cain, we were there to prop them up.

All of it’s a cluster**** and someday, if we are still a decent and moral nation (which I see we are not currently) the whole truth will come out about that disaster.

I respectfully disagree. The big problem is Europe losing its Christian culture to Muslim radicals. I get Putin’s objections to what the Obama administration did in Kiev. Why would anyone trust us? That and Egypt, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq were totally grabs for resources which aren’t ours.

Every Russian knows the War in Afghanistan was a precursor to the USSR’s collapse. But okay: the country was modern! And I do not buy that the Soviet Union had nothing to do with the rise of Islamic terror in the Middle East. That it was all America’s fault. (Though we have made mistakes aplenty.)

What say you then of the legacies of all the other Soviet satellite states then? (North Korea, Cuba)

Are they all America’s “fault” too? What say you of the Marshall and Macarthur plans? On how US allies like Japan and S. Korea have thrived with our “intervention.”

You’re a terrible student of history...

Commodore Perry sailed into Tokyo with nine ships in March 1854 and forced Japan to enter into trade with the United States... Russia, Britain, France, and Holland used their fleets on several occasions to defeat and disarm the Japanese feudal domains that defied them...

If the USA would have helped Japan and honored their trade agreement they forced upon Japan before Pearl Harbor, we wouldn’t be having this conversation about North Korea today.

I say chose your battles carefully. Or in this case, chose your interventions carefully. To do nothing is a mistake. Think about how Western Europe slept as Hitler rose to power.

But to try to do everything is also a mistake. The Roman and British Empires found that out the hard way.

If you want to visit places that are very pro NATO and American military protection: I recommend Estonia (was there on their independence day and people were waving American flags, mind boggling even for me.) Lithuania, Latvia...also Poland.

Ukraine is more complicated, but grania even ethnic Russians will increasingly dispute the idea that all the anti-Russian influence uprisings of recent years are simply a Western project.

It is very telling when places like Poland and Ukraine tear down their Lenin idols and Soviet statues (finally after all this time) and the Russian government proceeds to bully them...What era are they living in one wonders...

The “dills,” or Ukranians as they are called, are occupying Russia’s ancient capital... The best thing about Russia getting Crimea back… Catherine the Great took it from the Turks… What happened right after Russia retook Crimea? The FSB searched all the Turks living there… Why? Because NATO sponsors Islamist terrorism when it suits them to...

And guess what? NATO is allowing the Muslims to invade Europe... Who bombed Orthodox Christian Serbs for the Muslims? Clintion, Albright, and Clark...
