What he actually said was, he’s going to again allow local police and other agencies to procure surplus military equipment. Often that means vehicles, trucks, trailers, etc. Haven’t seen any fighter jets or cruise missiles turn up at the local PD yet...

But, they do have military grade automatic weapons such as M4s and electronics. Snipers in SWAT units in Western States frequently are transported in military helicopters.

My wife is a police/fire/EMS dispatcher. The police chief retired this week. Now, the shuffle of promotions. Patrol officers angling for Corporal. Corporals angling for Sergeant. Sergeant angling for Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeants angling for Lieutenant. Lieutenant's angling for Captain or Chief. The new Chief has been selected and the shuffle begins. Militarized? Has been for a long time. My wife is the sysadmin for the law enforcement computer system as well, so all the promotions will require editing of user profiles and adjustment of access and authorizations. Oh joy!

They definitely get select fire M4 and M16 rifles for the patrol cars. We have multiple Class III FFLs in town to service the PD. Plenty of non-PD customers as well.
