The system isn't broke so there's no need to fix it other than to make it tamper and fraud proof.

The purpose of the National Popular Vote bill is to make every voter in every state politically relevant in every presidential election.

The purpose of the National Popular Vote bill is to ensure the destruction of the Republic and rule of law, with mob rule, whipped up by whatever the national media and the nanny-state push as the narrative of the day.

I have no interest in living in a country where presidents are elected only by that segment of the population that happens to live within 500 miles of Louisville, Kentucky.

Popular vote as legal result (never) but only after nation wide voter ID and vote fraud legislation, which will never happen. So forgetaboutit.

We don’t “fear” it. We just believe that the USA, as established in our Constitution, was a pretty damned good idea and we don’t need to go to some headcount system that lesser nations use.

The only change we need is the end of the Two-Party system, since the two parties essentially merged over the last two decades.

But the STATES in the United STATES need to still have specific powers.

So far, 11 states have passed laws implementing the National Popular Vote Compact, and it has passed in at least one chamber of 12 other state legislatures, four of which are red states. It will go into effect when enough states have passed it to total 270 electoral votes.

The fact that every one of the eleven jurisdictions (ten states plus the District of Columbia) is a deep "blue" state in presidential elections should have been the first clue to the author of this garbage that this idea is idiotic.

The compact isn't even legally binding. In a presidential election year, any state that signs it can simply drop out of it between Election Day and the Electoral College vote through a vote of their own state legislature.

Right, because allowing the island of Manhattan to usurp the ENTIRE state of Wyoming is a good thing./sarc

The founders were brilliant men and designed a brilliant system of government.
The electoral college assures that all states get a say.
Ignoring the natural born citizen clause was disastrous for US.

It’s not fear. It’s that we have a republic, and we want to keep it.

The system is put there for a reason, and just because someone doesn’t like it doesn’t mean we should change it.... It has served its purpose for more than 200 years, and in spite of the whining by the left.... they have not presented one argument on why it should be changed an how their change would continue to ensure that the Executive is rewarded for breadth not depth.

<>When polled (by a left-leaning polling company), 74 percent of Americans support direct presidential elections.<>

I thought the states were forbidden to enter such compacts.

The purpose of “National Popular Vote” is to remove the firewall of state boundaries that limit the value of ballot-box-stuffing in the big-city urban plantations.

The Electoral College is there for a reason. It STAYS!

In the last general election one state, “CALIFORNIA” would have overridden 49 other states to make Hillary Clinton the President of the United States.

Anyone not grasping the implications of that, really needs to sit down and shut their pie-hole.

None of the votes in 49 states would have mattered, just California’s would have.

Tell me that makes sense in any sane person’s mind.

The founders were brilliant men and designed a brilliant system of government.

They also saw the chaos and destruction of Natural Rights that pure democracy and mob rule were creating in Revolutionary France.
